Let's talk about sleep regressions!
What are sleep regressions? A sleep regression is when your baby was a good sleeper, but now is having short naps, frequently waking up during the night and/or fighting sleep.
As a first time mama, I had no clue what sleep regressions are, when they occur or why. I spent so much time googling as to why my son was not sleeping for naps or during the night. So I have created a chart to save you time! Like, save and share to any other family that may find this useful!

When your little one is having short naps it can be frustrating and you start to wonder what are you doing wrong! I have been there with my son.. trust me!
What is considered a short nap? A short nap is when the duration lasts less than 1 hour. There are 4 reasons why some babies have short naps:
🌜Developmental: most babies that are under the age of 6 months typically only catnap. It takes some time for a baby to learn to transition from one sleep cycle to the next.
🌜Sleep prop dependency: When a baby has short naps they are usually depending on a prop to fall asleep because they do not know how to fall asleep on their own.
🌜Nap transition: This can also be another reason why your baby is having short naps. It simply means they are ready to drop a nap. In this case, if your baby is around the age of dropping a nap then follow the signs and adjust their schedule.
🌜Sleep training: Once you have started sleep training, your baby may start to catnap during the day because they are now sleeping well overnight! Just remember this is a good thing! It will take some time for your little one to adjust.

My 19 month old son recently just started having night terrors. My first thought was that he was having really bad nightmares, but turns out they are night terrors.
What are night terrors? They are generally harmless sleep episodes that occur when your child is partially awake. They usually start as young as 18 months.
There are some signs that they might show during the episode, such as:
- Screaming
- Yelling
- Kicking
- Bolting upright in bed
- Sweating
- Getting out bed or sleepwalking
- Pushing you away when you try to comfort
When my son had his episodes it was so hard to watch! I tried everything to comfort him, but nothing was working. It is harder on the parent than on the child. All you can do is make sure your little one is safe!
The best thing you can do is track your little ones episode each night and slightly wake up your little one before the episode happens.
If your little one is having night terrors or nightmares and you need more assistance you can DM me or send me an email!
