In order to apply for the American University of Barbados - School of Medicine, applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of admission or by December 31st in the year of admission into the MD program. In addition to a high school diploma, AUB requires a minimum of 90 credit hours of college courses and strongly recommends applicants for a degree from an accredited undergraduate institution. The language of instruction for all programs at , School of Medicine is English. Applicants of non-English speaking countries may be asked to submit documentation of proficiency in English (TOEFL, IELTS or equivalent English course). In most medical schools, students are bound to their textbooks until the second year. At the American University of Barbados - School of Medicine, however, things are different. Students at gain early clinical experience at the university on-campus medical clinic. At the start of their medical program, students take part in seminars and clinic observations with medical professionals and nurses.
In addition, they learn the process of taking patient histories and are involved in the case discussion, teaching them to link symptoms to diagnosis. These experiences strengthen teamwork and communication skills, which are crucial in training to become a physician that must regularly and effectively interact with patients, families, clinical and paramedical staff. Having such early clinical experiences is invaluable in preparing our students for their clinical rotations.

The American University of Barbados - School of Medicine accepts applications from prospective students in the United States, the United Kingdom, Asia, the , and other countries. For programs beginning in September, it is encouraged to apply as early as May or June. The earlier you submit your application, the more likely it is that your request will be processed promptly and your visa paperwork will be completed in a timely manner, resulting in a smooth and seamless transition into medical school.

As part of the rolling admissions process at the American University of Barbados - School of Medicine, applications are evaluated in the order they are received. Students who are accepted into our medical program are instantly notified of their acceptance. There are typically fewer admissions seats available for those who choose to apply in August or September, compared to those who apply in January. As such, students have a competitive advantage when applying early in the year, with a greater chance of submitting a successful application in January.
We encourage prospective medical students to apply to our medical program early to increase their chances of admission and begin their journey as a medical student.

One of the advantages of applying to the American University of Barbados - School of Medicine is its rolling admissions process.
Medical schools in the United States typically operate on a two-semester system and only accept students for the Fall semester. This means that you must wait an entire academic year to reapply if your application to a medical school is denied. On the other hand, , School of Medicine accepts students three times a year - in January, May, and September. The American University of Barbados - School of Medicine offers a comprehensive medical curriculum that is comparable to American medical school's curriculum, and is designed to help prepare students to take medical board exams and ultimately practice medicine around the world, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the .
Our campus is equipped with a new, state-of-the-art Medical Science Resource Centre and Anatomy Lab, and our teaching methods include technologically advanced techniques such as medical simulation games and 3D anatomy manikins. Students complete their clinical training in affiliated teaching hospitals in the US or other countries. Admission is three times a year begin in January, May, and September, with 16-week terms.
