Jeunesse is open for submissions! The editorial board welcomes submissions from interdisciplinary perspectives on the cultural functions and representations of “the child.” This is an open and general call for papers.

Possible topics include,but are not limited to: digital culture and young people; literature, art, film, and television by/for children and young adults; historical and contemporary constructions of “the child;” young people’s material culture; and more.

Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Upcoming — ARCYP 10/11/2023

The deadline for proposals for Youngsters 3: Undisciplined is quickly approaching! The Association for Research in Cultures of Young People (ARCYP) invites paper, panel, and roundtable proposals for the conference held at the University of Calgary from June 6-8, 2024.

Youngsters 3 is a celebration of the unruly, the irreverent, and the defiant as these qualities pertain to young people, the social and imaginative worlds they inhabit and create, and the many scholarly discourses that aim to study them.

ARCYP welcomes contributions from a wide variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary locations, including (but not limited to) children’s and young adult literature, childhood and youth studies, education, media studies, communication, cultural studies, gender and sexuality studies, medical/health studies, and sociology.

Proposal submission deadlines (early submissions encouraged): October 15, 2023

What is the role of sound in childhood? How can sonic occurrences inform children’s abilities to know, to be, and to be known?

Jeunesse guest editors Casey Macija and Hannah Dyer welcome submissions for a special issue that aims to answer those questions and more. Childhood’s Sonic Dimensions will explore the nexus between childhood and sound studies.

Submissions can answer questions including but not limited to: What is the role of sound in childhood? How can sound lead us into the affective excesses of children’s experiences? as well as topics including sound studies, dance, music education, performance and more.

Join us at Jeunesse!

Jeunesse is looking for editors who work in one or more of the following areas at the intersection of the cultures of young people: African literature, diaspora studies, critical race studies, disability studies, and more.

Duties and responsibilities include finding peer reviewers, assessing peer-review reports, preparing reports for the editorial board, and substantive editing of accepted articles. At Jeunesse, substantive editing includes detailed assessment of the logic of the argument and comments on stylistic felicity. Editors meet virtually approximately 4 times per year, and work collaboratively to make decisions on article acceptances, overall design, and policies/best practices for the journal. Editors will work remotely, via e-mail and video meeting platforms such as Zoom.

• How does transmission of sound shape both childhood experience and discourses of childhood?
