Slime!
Slime is very popular @ HoL! In the after school club it is a popular choice for our birthday celebrations, and slime is always included as an activity in our summer camps. At HoL we don't making messes - we love it!

At Fairy Camp (Summer 2022) we made fairy doors, fairy masks, wands, fairy slime (with glitter), magic fairy potions and a lantern. Not all of our friends were into fairies, so some children made dragon masks and dragon potions!

Water and Ice Camp - Foam Bubble Mixture – Water and Bubble Bath (No Tears Formula) – What do you do when the latex hands you and the children filled with trinkets and water the day before, weren’t frozen enough? You fall back on a staple -mix ½ cup of No Tears Bubble Bath, with 1 cup of water. Mix using a hand blender. Give the mixture to the children (each child made their own); add a tray of food colouring; a tray of implements; some animals and let them play. If you listen carefully you can interject some science words into the chatter, and ask them questions that start with ‘What do you think will happen if….’ And then they carry out the experiment to see if they were right….and then they begin to ask their own questions, “I wonder what will happen if I…..’

Water & Ice Camp - Day 2 – What did we do? We painted with ice cubes!! I froze water colour paint with water in ice cube trays. I then stuck in bamboo forks to add as handles ~ foil helps to stabilise the bamboo fork while the ice cube is freezing. Wait for a hot, sunny afternoon, give the children water colour paper, the ice cubes and watch the magic happen.

Water & Ice Camp -Day 2 – What did we do? We made ice soup! First we collected leaves, twigs, pinecones to add to our soup. Then our recipe began with ice cubes, a jug of water, lots of food colouring, a tray full of implements to mix and stir. Then we added children and created ice soup! We played a game to see how long it took us to melt the ice. We noted you could hold the ice cube in your hand and feel it melt, or pour water over the ice cube and watch it shrink.

Water & Ice Camp -Day 1 – What did we do? We made ice pictures! We went on adventure and collected leaves, twigs, acorns, pinecones and anything that we liked the look of, and came back and arranged them in a pie pan. We filled the pie pan with water and froze it overnight. This is typically a winter activity ~ but as this is water & ice camp we gave it a try. I thought we would hang the pictures in a Ziploc bag and watch the ice melt during the day ~ the children had other ideas and wanted to take them home. I am not sure how many made it home still frozen… but the children had fun.
