Pandemic conditions have led workplaces to re-invent the way day-to-day operations are completed.

Among these are traditional brainstorming sessions, which managers have attempted to replicate in the remote environment. However, studies have since shown us that virtual brainstorming sessions need to be developed as a separate entity.

Here are 4 simple steps to running a great virtual brainstorming session:

Pick a shared collaboration tool that suits your team, like MURAL or Google Forms.
Generate and organize ideas using the selected tool.
Dedicate an anonymous evaluation/feedback session.
Meet to discuss shortlisted ideas.

(3/4)💡 Involve your learner.

Throughout each e-learning experience, participants should be able to demonstrate their understanding and heighten their engagement.

Your course could be addressing all the right pain points, and organized with relevance - but without any form of mental stimulation, none of that content will get absorbed.

Follow the progress and performance of learners. Integrate practice activities such as games, simulations, and knowledge checks. Remember, if you want engaged learners, they must see the value of your assessments and spot that importance quickly.

How would you engage your learners? Drop a comment!

🔥 Hot take of the day: Innovation is hindered by the amount of work to do, and not where the work is done.

When comparing the performance of remote teams with teams working face to face, results generally show no difference in team performance. What does this mean?

The true culprit hiding behind remote work is a completely separate factor - the workload. With employees overloaded, there's little to no time for cross-department interaction and even less chance for novelty to occur.

According to a survey by Slack, remote work has provided employees solace when it comes to major pain points, ie. work-life balance and sense of belonging.

Have you noticed this at your workplace?

The Psychology Behind Meeting Overload 02/21/2022

The number one office productivity killer:

Meetings.

In a study by Harvard Business Review, managers reported that 83% of the meetings on their calendar were unproductive. Both quality and productivity take a hit when employees become demotivated, tune out, and lose precious time that could be spent better elsewhere.

If you struggle with meeting overload yourself, you’re not the only one. This 5 minute read shares six common reasons and key ways we can address them.

(2/4)💡 “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.”

It’s safe to say no one ever starts a new project with failure in mind. This applies to many of the choices we make - whether that’s for your organization, your employees, or even your own career.

So here’s our second piece of advice for you: Don’t underestimate the importance of a good plan.

Save yourself headaches further down the road by taking the appropriate measures. There will be times where you face unavoidable obstacles, so why not eliminate the unnecessary trials as much as you can?

(1/4)💡 Learning is not a one-and-done process.

The knowledge and skills employees learn stay with them their entire life, regardless of their occupation. That being the case, the way they are taught matters just as much if not more.

So here’s our first piece of advice for you: Analyze your audience.

Find out what they do know and what they don’t. If you set the stage at an appropriate level, you can focus entirely on addressing those knowledge gaps without distractions.

As the hybrid workplace becomes the new norm, the employee opportunities you provide in onboarding, training, and development need to adjust accordingly.

Today, employees are searching for the following:

🌱 Better work-life balance

A study conducted by Adobe found remote workers felt responsible to be available for work-related calls and emails at all hours, quickly leading to burnout. A safe, engaging environment with open communication can go a long way.

🔧 The right tools

Over half the workers stated they would switch jobs if promised tools that made them more efficient. It involves taking the mundane out of work by using technology to shorten or improve lengthy processes.

📚 Ongoing access to learning opportunities

More than ever before, employees are motivated by the freedom to develop their career path at their own pace, when they want it. The desire for autonomy is on the rise and it's not stopping anytime soon.
