So excited to be offering this collaboration with Rebel Soul

🌲 THE FOREST WITHIN > A mini evening retreat of yoga, embodied movement & creative expression.

What if you stopped trying to figure everything out with your mind… and instead listened to what your body already knows?

Real talk: We get so busy thinking, doing, solving and moving on to the next thing that we forget to pause long enough to actually FEEL.

But your body is always communicating. Sometimes it just doesn’t speak in words. DO you feel this?

Join me and Erika Johnson of Creating Horizons for anevening exploring embodied expression, with yoga, movement, breath and art to slow down, tune in and give expression to what’s moving within you.

We’ll begin with an embodied yoga practice designed to bring you out of your head and into your body. From there, we’ll move into guided creative expression with an art invitation.

This art invitation continues the journey using your body and mind, giving you space to explore and express what may be difficult to put into words.

You can think of this as wandering through your inner forest; noticing what’s growing, what’s changing, what’s ready to be released and what’s quietly asking for your attention.

Wednesday, October 21
5:30–9:00 PM | Porcupine Ski Runners | Timmins
🤎 A collaboration between Rebel Soul + Creating Horizons

Come exactly as you are. You don’t need to be an artist. You don’t need to be “good” at yoga. Just come curious about what might come out when you give yourself the space to listen.

I promise I will try to be more active in my posting! There's so many moments I experience in my work that I want to share introspection on on the side of the creating art side. 🎨

In the season of slowing down for the rest of winter, it always feels like such a full time. Heavyness as the cool sets in and missing the sun, abundance with harvest, anxiousness to 'be ready' for the snowfall. Where do we settle in these feelings of fullness?

My work in northern communities is some of my heart work. It is so "chill" as someone referred to it this weekend, because it works slowly, however, my mind is frequently racing. Yet the slow pace of community living encourages me to slow down and listen, and to stay malleable by lessening rigid structure. I strive to work in sympatico with the values and needs, and reflect this by offering alternatives to the voice of the stigma around therapy. Slowing down the process and allowing for digestion of the shifts in emotion and reflection and using the land whenever possible. I feel full every time, but always wonder if it's enough; if I heard the need correctly. Finding abundance in small things and small movements is not always an easy piece to acknowledge myself, or be seen by others. Laying down seeds in fertile soil, allowing things to develop and take time instead of being unripe and rushed.

While this is all in metaphor, it is a language I live by. I offer it as budding rhetoric for you own mind in this season. How is your harvest? Where do you find abundance? Where is the cool frost settling in too quickly? What stigmas do we need to be malleable for? Where do we find our space to slow down as we watch things changing? What are we holding onto that we are ready to release to allow us to rest in the winter? What horizons are you looking forward to with these shifts? ☀️

🍂

Enjoy some images of this season's travels to Weenusk. The colors are magic and the geography is uniquely enchanting ✨️

☀️ Accepting Individual Art Psychotherapy Clients ☀️

🍂While the days are becoming shorter, we slip into a season of letting go, and rest. As we find our new fall routines, sometimes, we need to step away from the busy pace and step back into ourselves with a bit of support. 🍂

🎨 Art Therapy/Psychotherapy combines talk psychotherapy with the act of creative processing to promote self and emotional regulation while exploring the challenges in one’s story. Art Psychotherapy uses verbal and non-verbal communication through the art-making. Psychotherapy follows the belief that everyone has it within them to heal. Making Art Therapy is suitable for all ages, no previous art experience is required. 🎨

Erika Johnson is an Art Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and operates Creating Horizons - Art Therapy and Psychotherapy Services

Hi! I'm Erika, your friendly neighborhood Art Therapist!

I have space to take on more Individual Art Psychotherapist Clients!

A psychotherapist is trained to dive alongside you into your story of both healing and hardship. Psychotherapy itself is a trauma trained approach that supports you in not only ways to reflect and shift the weight of your mindset with short term goals, but holistically offer space that continues to support yourself for long term wellness and shifts in patterns. Psychotherapy believes that it is in you to heal, and your psychotherapist helps you find that expression, especially through the art making.

However, you don’t always need to have a ‘problem’ to attend an Art Therapy invitation or session. To create art, and be witnessed by someone in a confidential and non-judgmental space, can be healing in its own. Your art can hold more of a voice of reflection and validation within the session alongside dialogue with your Art Psychotherapist.

Hello Timmins and James Bay, it's me, your friendly neighborhood Art Therapist! ☀️

For those who haven't met me, my name is Erika Johnson and I'm an Art Psychotherapist (Qualifying) BA, DKATI, RPQ. I have recently opened my private practice of ✨Creating Horizons✨ and thought it was about time to introduce myself.

Born and raised in Windsor, I've been living in Timmins for the past 10 years. Drawn to the edge of the Boreal Forest, I'm often found outdoors either on a snowmobile or 4-wheeler, and either harvesting, foraging, homesteading, or simply existing amidst the woods.

I've always said that I was an artist first and therapist second. My art practice is something that rumbles beneath my day to day existence as I do deep dives into exploring who I am, and my role in my community. You can see this way of existence within my therapeutic practice doing artist explorative therapy sessions with other individuals, or in my land-based practice around the northern communities. I strive for genuine consistency so the person you will meet on the street in is the same person you will have in your therapeutic session. Our world is crazy enough, we could use a bit of kindness and human connection in our town! ☀️

I previously worked for Mushkegowuk Council for the past 7 years and fell in love with the north and the communities. Surrounding my Anti-Oppressive, Holistic and Jungian frameworks of working, being within the communities allowed me the chance to slow down, and truly learn what it means to listen. Hearing not just to respond, but to feel and be alongside someone and their journey.

Creating Horizons name was born in honor of my relationship with the land that has been growing since leaving the mountains of British Columbia after my degree. It was a promise to myself to acknowledge where all my new horizons would take me. It was to take the moments to pause, take each day at a time, with every new landscape, every new relationship, and that it was my story to create.

I'm excited to begin this chapter with new opportunities that include groups and individual 1-1 psychotherapy services. For more information, and or inquiry for a consultation, visit my website https://www.creatinghorizonstherapy.com/contact-8

I look forward to getting to know you! ☀️

A special thank you Isaac with IJB Media for the lovely photos!

Labor of love. This man, who looks like he's a part of the equipment, has spent as much time in this new space as I have making it happen. we had quite the challenge polishing up this space and bringing it to what it is now. I wouldn't be here without his help and support to bring this part of our Horizon enterprise to life! He believes in me some days more than I believe in myself and totally knows my love languages are Words of Affirmation with a smidgen of Acts of Service in this case! ☀️

Keep an eye out for a house warming in March!
