Let me tell you a little bit about batik. This is a favourite workshop that I have run over the years in various settings and with every age group.
Batik involves blocking in areas of colour by painting on fabric with hot wax. The wax can be used as a resist to seal in colours or to outline an area that is then filled with dye. I go into further detail in my comments for the photos so please check them out
If you have an interest in batik, please contact me about organizing a workshop. Batik is fun and messy, and you'll love it!

In speaking with visitors to Covent Garden Market, as an outdoor popup vendor, I have learned that there is a great deal of interest in learning to crochet. On Saturday, September 7 you can do just that. Stop by at any time, 9 am to 4 pm, to create either of two beginner projects. Make a fun and functional scrubby free of charge. Create a colourful and convenient market bag to keep in your purse for the many times that you forget your grocery bag. Or do both. The cost for the market bag is $20.00. There are many colours to choose from to satisfy your creative urge.
You will likely not finish the bag in one day but I have provided video links below to help you complete it. Also, my studio is near CGM and I will be available until December, whereupon I turn into a snowbird.
If you are interested in making a bag, please let me know and name a few of your favourite colours so that I can pre-make the bottom for you (you will make the second bottom). See the colours in the photo below.
I look forward to seeing you at the Market, upstairs in the Lounge.

The weaving and macramé workshops were great successes on Saturday, August 3. I was so pleased that they turned out to be an all ages event. Everyone enjoys creative activity of one sort or another and weaving and macramé are perfect paths to creativity. The next workshop, featuring crochet, will be held on September 7. Macramé has made a comeback for a reason. It is versatile, decorative, and mildly therapeutic. Instead of dealing with the knots that life throws at you, arrange knots into an appealing pattern. Work with natural materials to create a beautifully textured small wall hanging. The cost is $25.00. Please preregister on Facebook or email me at [email protected].

I had to download the Intro to mesh bag video again as only about one quarter of it downloaded properly.
This is the label of the crochet cotton thread (or yarn) that I have been using. It is "size 10" yarn. Because I doubled the yarn I used a size 3 mm or 2.75 mm crochet hook. I purchased the yarn at Michaels. The colour range is lovely and inspirational. I tried purchasing thrift yarn because I like to upcycle. I haven't given up on this idea but so far, not much success.

This video is intended to help Ailsa Craig Arts Centre participants in the crochet workshop to stitch on! I have been having great fun making granny squares and look forward to sharing these with you on October 25. There are four videos posted now. Initially this video was incomplete but has now been corrected. If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.
For all interested in making this bag, I used two strands of no. 10 crochet yarn and a size 3 or 2.75 crochet hook.
