I haven't posted in a while! Yikes! It's been a busy spring, summer and autumn for me. Here's what I've been up to:

- Completing my 2nd Level of Brain Sensory Foundations Course (more tools to address the underlying factors that impact learning)

- Completed MNRI Neurotactile Course (tools to help promote integration of the tactile and sensory systems which helps facilitate emotional and behaviour regulation. I had the privilege of doing this course with a colleague so we had the opportunity to practice on each other. This protocol is incredibly relaxing!)

- Completed a week-long intensive in Cognitive Enrichment as both a parent and practitioner at the MindCAP Center in Indiana

-Preparing a "Math Power Tools Workshop" for parents (STAY TUNED!)

- Working with my amazing clients (one of whom left me this little message on the chalkboard a few weeks ago)

Today I had the privilege of presenting my new workshop, Keys to Unlocking Resilience and Grit, to a great group of teachers.

"We need to be teaching resilience as fervently as we teach math, science, arts, or sports." Terresse Lewis

“Have fun with your child!” Having fun together builds relationship and trust that helps foster resilience in children.

It's amazing how having a little fun can change the day for everyone. Laughing increases seratonin and dopamine improving your emotional well being (and who couldn't use that!). So take the challenge and try spending just 10 minutes having fun with your kiddo and let us know what happens!

Did you know that resilence and grit are better predictors of success than talent? Resilience and grit are essential non-cognitive skills that can be developed in all students. Educational Intervention programs at Crossroads help develop these skills as our students engage in deliberate pratice with specific feedback.

I am excited to be offering 2 Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment programs: FIE Basic and FIE Tactile. These are powerful tools to help your child (or yourself!) reach your potential. Change the way you think! Change the way you learn!

How are you feeling about your child's progress as the school year is wrapping up?

I received an email from a parent of a teenage client who is feeling hopeful about her daughter's progress. Her daughter had forwarded her a copy of her English assignment and she shared it and a little note of gratitude with me.

Individualized intervention programs are so powerful! I'm thankful to be able to help my students reach their potential.

Would you just look at this client’s precision and accuracy!? Her goal for this task was precision and accuracy and self-control. The key to her success? Making a plan: slow down and focus the eyes, hand and brain.

Reading, writing and having fun! This “suction-cup” ball is a favourite with my younger clients.

This client has come so far in his fine motor control, letter recognition and formation.

"The more words he knew, the more clearly he could share what he was thinking and feeling." Jerome in the Word Collector, by Peter Reynold.

This is the power of a language based intervention like NILD Educational Therapy and Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment. Both programs utilize language as a tool to develop cognitive skills. Language guides thinking!

If you sat in on a session, you might here me say,

"What label do we have for that 'thing'?"
"Use your words to tell me what you are thinking."
"Let's say that again, this time in just one clear sentence."
"Tell me what you were thinking."
"How do you know that you are correct?"
"What is another way to describe that?"
"Using your words, compare these two objects. How are they the same? How are they different?"
"Tell me more!"
