The official results from the CIBC Investment Challenge are in! The top three performing portfolios managers in this year's challenge were:
1. Quinn Fonzo -- $500
2. Tony Tassone -- $300
3. Evan Speziale -- $200
Quinn Fonzo took 1st place and managed to grow his initial $1,000,000 investment to $1,122,220 over the course of the challenge, for a total holding period return of 12.2% in just over a month!
We hope everyone had a great experience and was able to learn something about investing in the capital markets. This year's competition was a great success, and LUSFA looks forward to running the competition again in the years to come.
Reminder to all 2016 CIBC Investment Challenge participants:
The 2016 CIBC Investment Challenge is on its last leg! The competition ends at the end of the trading week, this Friday the 8th of April.
This year's competition has been a great one, seeing participation from nearly 75 FOBA undergraduate students. As of today (Monday, April 4th) 35 portfolios have made money, 24 portfolios have lost money, and 14 portfolios are not yet invested.
I hope all participants have learned something new and have enjoyed the CIBC Investment Challenge experience.
If your portfolio is in the top three at the end of the trading week, please contact [email protected] within 48 hours of the close of trade to confirm your identity and claim your prize!

LUSFA and CIBC have partnered to host the CIBC Investment Challenge.
*Cash Prizes awarded to 1st- $500, 2nd- $300, 3rd- $200
Open to full time & part time students in the Faculty of Business at Lakehead University.
Registration will begin March 1st, the final sign-up date will be Friday, March 8th, and the end date will be Friday, April 8th.

LUSFA is happy to announce another guest speaker!
On Thursday, March 19th from 1:00 - 2:30 pm in RB1022, James Dennison will be returning to Lakehead to give a presentation.
James attended Lakehead for his undergrad in finance in 1999 and has had a very successful career in risk management. James successfully obtained his CFA in 2002, and then proceeded to get his MBA in Financial services at York in 2004.
James will be talking about his experience and career path after graduation. After graduating he took a position with OSFI in 1999, Chief Risk Officer at CIBC Mellon in 2005, returned to OFSI in 2010 to lead their Operational Risk Division and soon will be pursuing a Career at BMO leading their Operational Risk Management Program in the near future.
We hope for a great attendance for fellow Alumni and this would be a great chance for students to gain insight into the risk management side of finance.
