APRIL START DATES!

Classes are held at our private studio upstairs at 402 May St. Side door on Dease here in Thunder Bay. This unfortunately means no drop-ins, and all appointments must be confirmed in advance.  New students are always welcome but if you are an intermediate or advanced student in need of instruction feel free to reach out as well.

Introduction to the potters wheel
Classes are 4 weeks, 2 hours per week.

Cost for 4 weeks of classes is $275. All materials and firing included.

The start dates for Introduction to the Potters Wheel are as follows:

Monday April 13 at: 3pm, 5pm, and 7pm
Wednesday April 15 at: 7pm
Friday April 17 at: 5pm and 7pm
Saturday April 18 at: 2pm
Sunday April 19 at: 10am, 12pm, and 2pm

What do I get out of 4 weeks of classes? Here is the schedule of what you will be getting out of those classes.

Week 1. Learning to use your hands. Not everyone comes to pottery easily. It is a game of strength and calm. That is why many people think pottery is very meditative over time, but in the short-term, you may get a little frustrated. I really try to manage expectations from the very beginning. During your first class you will not keep anything. We call it the “Chuck it bucket” for a reason. This is so you don’t get emotionally attached to your first pieces and care more about the actions of making.

Week 2. This is where we will focus on what you learned the previous week and keeping pieces for week 3. Since we will be working on cylinders and bowl forms, you will be keeping anything that comes to fruition. However, you also won't be as heartbroken if something goes wrong because we had the previous week of just chucking things into the bucket.

Week 3. This is where we trim the bottoms of your pots and do any decorative carving that we see fit at that time.

Week 4. This week is where you get to apply colour to your pieces. You will be painting glazes with instruction.

Keep note that these are the start dates for your 4 weeks. Each booking will be at that same weekday and time unless otherwise discussed.
