🧸 May 10, 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of Jordan’s Principle at the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.

Jordan’s Principle is named after Jordan River Anderson, a child from Norway House Cree Nation in Manitoba. Jordan spent his entire life in hospital while governments argued over who should pay for his at-home care. He never made it home.

In his memory, Jordan’s Principle was created—a child-first approach to ensure First Nations children receive the care and services they need, when they need it, without delays or red tape.

On this day, we honour Jordan and raise our voices for equity and justice for all First Nations children and youth. 💛

🧸 Share with others and help spread awareness

Kiiwe Minoyaawin (Return to Wellness) is a holistic family camp that combines mental wellness and cultural practices. It is a collaboration between various SLFNHA departments, including Nodin Mental Health Services, Anishinaabewaadiziwin, Approaches to Community Wellbeing, Client Services, and Onaman Ziibi staff.

Kiiwe Minoyaawin is for families from First Nations communities served by SLFNHA with children/youth ages 6-18. For more information or to register, email [email protected].

Shannon Jacob was born and raised in Webequie First Nation and is now a dedicated Constable for Nishnawbe Aski Police Services. Shannon was awarded Officer of the Year in 2022 and in 2023 she was awarded Community Based Officer of the Year.

What does being a leader mean to Shannon?

“We must understand as parents, family, workers, managers that we need to encourage one another. No matter where you are employed, do it from the heart, comment on the good work. A leader is someone who is brave and takes the high road. I was always taught by great leaders of mine, my dad and my late grandfather that there is a reason for you where you are today. I also encourage the young people to stay in school and follow their dreams. A leader must always lead by example."
