DFC Elder’s Week 🤍
We’re so grateful to all of the Elders who came in to spend time with our students; sharing stories, teachings, and just being there. Those are core memories our students will carry them with them.
It was also a really meaningful week for our staff. Getting to learn alongside students, listen, and take in these teachings is something you can’t replicate.
A big thank you to everyone who made this week happen. To our Elders, the classes who cooked and plucked, the hunters who provided - special mention to our student hunters (Caden Kakegamick, Deerell Gray), and to Sonny Mamakwa and Jack McKay for the generous donation of geese, we truly appreciate it. Thank you to our Elders for providing songs, prayers and a blessing of the new school vehicles.
Students were part of so many amazing experiences: Red Dress Pin Beading, Wild Food Cooking, Leadership – Being a FN Chief, Storytelling, Goose Hunting, Net Making, Importance of Treaties, Water Teachings, Women’s Teachings, Traditional Values of our Ancestors, Art, Fishing on the Shore, and Film Study.
Can’t wait for next year!
