Music Workshop offers personalized music lessons in Thunder Bay for guitar, piano, drums, bass, and voice. We also sell and service instruments, including the unique Canadian-made Seagull M4 Merlin, perfect for instant musical gratification. Additional retail includes new and used instruments and accessories, hand drums, and electronics. We also continue as your regional Korg dealer for pianos and synthesizers. Additional services include:

We have hosted visiting presenters; harmonica wizard Mike Stevens (Grand Ole Opry), Arabic/West African and Brazilian Drumming Workshops with Humber's (and Thunder Bay's own!) Rick Lazar, Indian Drumming with Master Trichy Sankaran (York University), Blues Guitar with legend Ken Hamm, Ugandan Drum and Dance with Master performer/teacher Bakka Bakkabulindi Samuel, and 4 day retreats with Ghanaian Drum Master Kwasi Dunyo. Music Workshop School Director, Sean Jesseau, is actively bringing team-building through music to events, festivals, corporate retreats, training sessions, schools, fundraising events, celebrations and more. Sean also provides interactive drumming sessions and interactive musical keynotes with and without instruments.

I’m really enjoying these videos by the great Howard Levy (harmonica legend and fabulous pianist/ composer and improviser)- who often plays with one hand on each at the same time!

This episode introduces Nicolas Slonimsky; conductor, author and pianist. The story connects to Charles Ives, Edgard Varese (one of my faves!) John Coltrane and Frank Zappa to name a few. Howard’s presentation style is so relaxed and casual and conversational.

When I went to study with my frame drum hero the great Glen Velez, Howard was teaching in the same house that week. At night Howard and I stayed up very late a few times. He had his laptop. He would unwind these sprawling tales of his collaborators and recordings (Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Acoustic Express, Chevere, and his classical music career) while simultaneously burning me cds off his laptop. This was after a full day of teaching group classes to harmonica players who had come from all over the world.

The highlight of that study trip was rehearsing and playing an outdoor pavilion concert for the Outer Banks (N. Carolina) locals. I got to perform with Howard, Glen Velez, Lori Cotler (vocalist par excellence- jazz, s**t and konnokol virtuoso! Look her up!) and my classmates from that week. Great times all coordinated by Margie Farmer who later became my link to hosting Kinobe and Soul Beat Africa here in T Bay, Bakkabulindi Samuel who returned to T Bay to teach Ugandan drumming and dance for a week and Margie also connected me to WeBe3 (a vocal trio of superstars) at a follow up event. And that retreat was all about vocal improvisation which I still love to explore.
Funny how pivotal people connect so much when we are receptive and ready.

Watching this reminds me of those late nights with Howard after everyone else had crashed out. Hanging on every word. In awe. Thank you Howard! 🙏😁

height adjustment. I’ve seen some j***y stands at this price but this one is a winner. DW has a great reputation for drums and hardware. Everything you do at your instrument should rest on a solid foundation!
