On Wednesday, September 30th, St. Jude school will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, better known as Orange Shirt Day. Students and families are encouraged to wear orange in honour and remembrance of those affected by the Residential School System in Canada. We wear orange to remember those who were affected and to honour Phyllis Webstad’s message: “Every Child Matters.”

Families are invited to join us for a walk around the block, beginning at 1:45 p.m, or wait for their child’s class to return and meet in the back field at approximately 2:00 p.m. Following the walk, we will gather as a school community to pray together and reflect. We have guest hand drummers who will be sharing traditional songs and teachings, as we learn about the meaning and importance of this day.

A light snack will be provided, and orange persians will also be available for $2.00 each. Please bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on if you would like. Thank you in advance for joining us as we remember, learn, and continue our journey toward Truth and Reconciliation.

Did you know that this week is National Forest Week? 🌲 To celebrate, Ms. P’s Grade 3/4 class has Rachael from the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority come in to teach us all about the importance of trees in our community and in the world and the students had fun exploring the characteristics of different types of trees both inside and outside of the classroom! Thanks for coming to visit us Rachael!
