Kinda chic: Therapist Edition 💅🧠✨

Emotional support coffee? Chic.
Saying “boundaries” 47 times a week? Chic.
Being slightly dysregulated while teaching regulation? Very chic. 😂
Getting your notes done before leaving? ✨ LUXURY ✨
Having your own therapist and clinical supervisor? Elite-level chic.

Therapists: we’re out here helping people heal while surviving on caffeine, cardigans, dark humour and a suspicious amount of “mmm-hmm.” 😂

Kinda messy. Kinda magic. Kinda chic. 🩷

Tell me… what did I miss? 👇

Back to school. Back to work. Back to routines. 📚☕️

September has a way of sneaking up on us—and so does the return to busy schedules!

If you know you’ll want a specific day or time for your counselling, coaching, or supervision sessions, NOW is the time to book ahead. 🗓️

Summer tends to be a little quieter, but fall? That’s when those favourite appointment times disappear quickly!

✨ Plan ahead.
✨ Protect your time.
✨ Make your mental health part of the schedule—not something you squeeze in when everything feels overwhelming.

Book your sessions now to get the times that work best for YOU. 🧡

I have observed this more and more in my practice.

What is family estrangement?

Family estrangement is the breakdown or complete loss of a relationship between family members. It may involve little or no contact and can happen between parents and children, siblings, grandparents, or extended family.

Despite what many people think, estrangement is rarely about one argument.

More often, it develops over time after repeated experiences such as:
• Ongoing conflict
• Emotional neglect or abuse
• Boundary violations
• Addiction or untreated mental health concerns
• Feeling unheard, unsafe, or chronically invalidated
• Differences in values or lifestyles

It is also important to know that not all estrangement looks the same.

Some people desperately want reconciliation.

Others have chosen distance because maintaining the relationship was causing significant emotional harm.

Many feel both grief and relief at the same time.

As therapists, we don’t decide whether someone “should” reconcile or remain estranged. Instead, we help people explore their experiences, process the grief, understand family patterns, strengthen boundaries, and make decisions that align with their wellbeing and values.

Family relationships can be incredibly healing—but they can also be incredibly painful.

If family estrangement is part of your story, know that you’re not alone, and healing is possible, regardless of what the future of that relationship looks like.

💙 Have you heard the term family estrangement before?

As summer winds down, life has a way of speeding back up.

School routines return. Work gets busier. Sports start. Calendars fill.

If you’ve been thinking, “I should probably book an appointment…” consider this your gentle reminder. 💙

September is one of our busiest months, and appointment times begin filling quickly. Booking ahead helps ensure you get a time that works best for your schedule and keeps your momentum going if you’re already in therapy.

Your mental health deserves a place on your calendar, too.

📅 Begin thinking about your September appointments now before they’re gone.

We’d love to support you.

Some days don’t feel heavy.

They don’t feel joyful either.

They’re just… meh.

We spend so much time asking ourselves, “What’s wrong with me?” when maybe nothing is wrong at all.

Maybe you’re not meant to be inspired every day.
Maybe you’re not supposed to be operating at 100% all the time.
Maybe a “meh” day isn’t a sign you’re falling apart—it’s a reminder that you’re human.

We’ve become so uncomfortable with the ordinary that we mistake it for something that needs fixing.

What if you didn’t?

What if you simply let today be… enough?

Sometimes peace doesn’t feel exciting.
Sometimes healing doesn’t feel transformational.
Sometimes growth looks a lot like an ordinary Tuesday.

And maybe that’s exactly where life is happening.

Dinner for one because my husband is off flying. ✈️

Tonight’s menu: chicken and salad.

As a therapist, I’m trying not to judge my life choices…

But I absolutely judged this salad for not coming with fries. 😂

I keep reminding myself to “sit with discomfort.”

Apparently, that includes eating vegetables on a Saturday night.

If your therapist can’t model confidence while wearing hot pink pants and pretending she’s on a world tour…
…is she even your therapist? 🎤😂

Did you know? Working with kiddos isn’t about solving the problem right away or making big steps in therapy.

Sometimes the work with kids isn’t about finding the perfect words.

I let the child lead their sessions.

It isn’t about solving the problem in one session.
It isn’t about getting them to “open up.”

Sometimes…

The work is simply becoming one more safe adult in their world.

Someone who listens without rushing.
Someone who stays when feelings get big.
Someone who doesn’t judge, shame, or expect them to be anything other than who they are in that moment.

Healing often begins long before a child talks about what happened.

It begins when their nervous system starts to believe:
✨ “I’m safe here.”
✨ “This adult is predictable.”
✨ “I don’t have to carry this alone.”

Never underestimate the power of consistently showing up.

Sometimes the greatest therapeutic intervention isn’t what we do.

It’s who we are. And sometimes it’s just about letting a child be a child.

❤️ A safe place. A steady presence. A trusted relationship.
