This week in our JK classroom it was a fantastic time as we learned about our five senses. The kids were having a great time as they made use of their environment to explore their senses. It was quite a learning experience for them when they realized their environment can be used as their senses for example, “seeing” they looked around and found lots to see. We worked on letter “Bb” lots of fun creative art activities, making butterflies and bees. The kids are doing an amazing job at using phonetic sounds of the letters in finding words. For math, we discovered shapes are all around us and will continue to explore more. We were having a great learning experience as the kids used grasping tools to pick up balls, and place them in tubes, expanding. On some more math skills, first sorting by colors, then making patterns, and then counting how many balls can one too pulled. This is where measurement came into play. It’s such a phenomenal time at the end of the day when the kids present their masterpieces.

This past few weeks the Rainbow nursery class have been busy learning all about colours, shapes and patterns. They are learning what they are, how to identify them and how to connect them to the natural world. Daily discussions are happening at Circle Time and children have the opportunity to contribute their ideas and stories with the rest of the class. With teacher guidance, they are supported with vocabulary and open ended questions to help communicate their thoughts. Each activity, sensory bin and science experiment give the children a chance to explore colours, shapes and patterns. Through repetition and interactive activities children are gaining confidence and pride in their accomplishments. Way to go Rainbow’s!! Where do you see an AB or an ABC pattern?

The S.K group had a great week! Mother nature gifted us with snow and the kids had a blast rolling around in it, shoveling big snow mountains, creating snow angels, and coloring ice with chalk. The S.K class had a special visitor, Mrs. Habekost! They loved helping her skip count by 5 on our school tuff tray. We started to skip counting by 2's 5's and 10s then created fun crafts to show what we've learned.
Mrs. Sally Subtraction introduced us to a few new words- fewer, less, minus, and take away. We have a good understanding of addition up to 10...now on to bigger things- adding to 20. We got this! 😀
Have a great weekend.
