Last week of sound baths at 555 bloor st w 🤍🎶

Hello 👋 friendly reminder that next monday august 29 will be my last week at 555 bloor. If you wish to attend a cute lil sound bath experience, there’s still time!

Here’s the sched:

✨ 12pm for self-trust
✨ 6pm for grounding

Each experience is 75 mins and you will be guided through expressive writing exercises, intention setting, group sharing and a restorative sound bath to support our theme.

If you’re new to sound bathing - there’s no water involved hehe (legit question I’ve had before). You can think of it like a nourishing massage for your brain where you’ll experience different sounds to help you release any stuck energy and soothe your autonomic nervous system 🧠🤗

Registration is $25-$45 sliding scale to support diff financial situations. Only a few spots available for each!

Link in bio to register 🌹

Have you ever tried a sound bath? 🎶✨

Sound has been used for thousands of years across various cultures as one of the first healing modalities, and often practiced in community.

A sound bath is a nourishing (sonic) massage for the autonomic nervous system and facilitated in group settings. In a sound bath practitioners often use different sounds and instruments (which all have different frequencies) to help promote wellness and desired states like relaxation, deepened self-awareness and more.

How does sound therapy work? 🤔

Sound therapy is based on the premise that all matter vibrates at specific frequencies and an external sound source (i.e. instruments) can change the vibration of another vibrating object (i.e. our brain + body).

How can sound change our brain?! 🧠

Through a process called entrainment, the sound received during a sound bath can help to shift our brain state - moving from a more alert and anxious state to one that is more relaxed and calm.

Entrainment is the process of two different rhythmic patterns (i.e. instrument and brain) syncing up so they become harmonious 💞

So when we use specific instruments - i.e. crystal singing bowls which have a single sustained drone-like sound - the brain and body start to harmonize with the sound, allowing it to settle and enter a state of greater calm.

If you’re curious and would like to try out a sound bath, I will be facilitating pay-what-you-can sound baths on Mondays in July at 555 Bloor St. West. These sound baths will be restorative in nature and I will use various instruments that can help move stagnant energy and bring about a state of deeper relaxation and restoration.

There are still a few spots left for tomorrow’s sessions at 12pm, 5pm, and 7pm.

I love Alan Watts ♥️

You know that question they often ask in interviews - if you could have dinner with anyone - past or present - who would it be? It would be him for me 😭😍

For those new to his work, Alan Watts was an English philosopher who is most commonly known as being one of the first people to interpret Eastern wisdom for a Western audience. I really enjoy his lectures because they’re both deep and light at the same time, and something about the way he views the world has helped me take things a lil less seriously.

His work reminds us to live a little more fluidly and less in absolutes, which I believe is heavily influenced by Buddhist philosophy + teachings.

I love this particular quote from his lecture - The Pursuit of Pleasure - he draws such a simple yet powerful example of what he feels could help someone live more happily.

The example of water really resonates w me - probably because I struggled to float as a kid 😅🥲 and I VIVIDLY remember that it wasn’t until I surrendered to the water and let go of the tension in my body (aka relaxed lol), that I began to float.

Water is a beautiful element that we can turn to for influence - how if we were to embrace a bit more flow, fluidity and ease in life, perhaps we could more readily tap into our sense of calm, connection and creativity 😌💖

I know when I allow myself to trust the flow of things and just generally allow myself to indulge in things that bring me pleasure, it is a lot easier to tap into my creative juices.

Water is ALSO the element associated with the sacral chakra 🌊🧡

This coming Tuesday June 14 @ 7pm, I will be facilitating a group sound therapy event focused on supporting the sacral chakra + moving through it’s most common block which is guilt.

In this experience you will be guided through various sounds, meditation, writing and gentle intuitive movement to rebalance your sacral chakra, and we will end off with a restorative sound bath to integrate the experience. If you are interested in learning more, please visit the link in my bio 🌹

There are only a few spots left 🙏🧡

I can honestly say I only really started to explore and develop a relationship with my body a few years ago - at 33.

And I’m not ashamed to admit it.

I grew up in a Catholic home and school system - where all topics related to s3x and pleasure were off the table. My parents never spoke to us about s3x and it was literally a “sin” to engage in any type of s3xual activity (even with oneself!!!) before marriage.

I remember in high school, we were mandated to wear uniforms. There came a time when girls started to alter their skirts/kilts a little shorter, and the school decided to ban the kilts indefinitely, forcing everyone to wear pants.

Looking back now these were just a couple formative experiences that subconsciously told me that it’s wrong to explore and express my s3xuality as a woman.

It has taken YEARS and much support to even begin unraveling these feelings of guilt and shame. And to this day, I still find myself feeling like it’s “wrong” for wanting to dress in certain ways when I leave my apartment.

However, I am grateful to have this awareness today, and part of what I believe I am here to do on this earth is to encourage others to reflect on the environments that might have influenced who they are today. And to really check in to see if those stories + standards still resonate.

It’s never too late to do this work.

What’s been your relationship to your body and pleasure? Has it changed over time?

I would love to know below ⬇️💗

PS - On Tuesday, June 14 @ 7pm I will be facilitating a group sound therapy experience at where we we explore the theme of GUILT. This can be a helpful experience for those who may feel wrong for expressing their sensuality, pleasure and exploring their desires. It will also be a good opportunity for those who feel guilt due to standards brought on by others, and even by self. If you wish to learn more + register please visit link in bio ♥️

Let’s talk about how to create and embody an intention 💗✨

But first - let’s bring it back to the basics…

What’s an intention? 🤔

An intention is quite simply a commitment to yourself 🤝

Why are they important? 🤔🤔

When we can get into a habit of creating intentions regularly it helps us reprogram our brain’s feedback loop (aka our thought patterns / what we tell ourselves). When we might be used to a more negative or critical feedback loop, setting intentions can begin to help us change this pattern into one that’s more supportive 🥰.

This is how we can change our brain, and further transform our lives via a process called neuroplasticity 🧠❣️

What’s more - it’s usually not enough to simply state an intention without truly connecting to it. We must ensure that both our mind AND body are onboard. And we can get here through a process called embodiment.

So today I go through some simple steps that can help you set and embody an intention ➡️

Note: Intentions do not have to be long a$$ paragraphs or sentences. The more simple the better. I know for me when I try to set longer intentions I forget them by mid-day, so I usually like to choose 2-3 words in the morning and connect with it through yoga. If I am looking to do some release work I will then set an intention that is a bit more focused on what it is I am releasing, and I connect with it through music and movement.

Do you have any specific practices or tips when it comes to intention setting? I would love to know below! ♥️⬇️

Much love 🌹🌹🌹

PS - if you’d like to practice connecting with an intention IRL I am facilitating somatic sound therapy experiences at in June. Link in bio to register + learn more. Limited spots left for these dates 🌹

Let’s talk about intention setting + the brain 🧠✨

We hear alllll the things about “manifesting” and I dunno about you but it has always been really hard to connect with practices that are not grounded in some form of science or ancient tradition 🧐.

So I’ve been more closely exploring the use of intentions lately.

Just over a couple of weeks ago I shared that’d I’d be facilitating a group sound therapy event. I was honestly really nervous about it because I had under a week to promote the event and a lil voice inside me was saying things like “you chose the wrong date to hold the event” + “no one wants to do this type of stuff on a friday night 🥲”

So I held space in my mind for these sassy thoughts and decided to set an intention.

I intended to facilitate a safer space and opportunity for at least 7 participants to explore their inner world at this event.

I wrote it out on a piece of paper and set it on my bedside with some of my fave ‘abundance’ crystals on it (orange calcite, trilobite, amber, galena and pyrite) ➡️

I then repeatedly visualized myself at the event with these beautiful humans and myself facilitating the experience feeling grounded.

The event ended up selling out at capacity 😭.

This is not the first time I’ve doodled or written intentions out that have come to life. And while I don’t understand the exact science of “manifesting” I will say this…

We often have the ability to change our minds, and when we can change our mind, we can change our state.

There is a process called neuroplasticity which refers to our ability to rewire our brains. When we can identify our critical feedback loops (aka our sassy thought patterns) and create new, more supportive feedback loops, this is when change happens.

And learning this helped me better understand why practices like intention-setting, mantra and affirmations can be so helpful.

So perhaps the next time you’re feeling stuck, see if you can identify the story you’re telling yourself, and whether there’s a more supportive and kinder version you can replace it with.

Do you use intentions in your life? I would love to know below! 🌹⬇️

*Note: The chakra system is a beautiful ancient energy system that originated in India, and were first mentioned in the Vedas (which are ancient texts) around 1500 to 1000 BC. There is more than just the one chakra system in the original tradition, however the 7-chakra system is one we most commonly know in the Western world. I am no means an expert or authority on this complex ancient energy system, and how I use it in my sound therapy practice is informed from my learnings through school, and my own personal experimentation over the years. I personally have found using the 7-chakra system a really accessible framework to better understand how to support myself through difficult times and also tap into desired states. It has also been a really helpful + effective system to use when supporting my clients. My intention here is to simply help people explore and nurture their inner world using this framework ♥️

Fear is one of the biggest barriers to growth - in ourselves, our relationships, work, and more 🚨

At the root of fear is a feeling of not being safe…

And we don’t talk about this enough!!

Not feeling safe can come from a feeling that our sense of security is being threatened (often stemming from traumatic stress + experiences). When we do not feel safe, our stress response is activated and we’re often living from a disconnected state (quite literally a lil part of our brain called the amygdala takes over our rational thinking 🧠😶‍🌫️).

It’s difficult for us to make sustainable change in our lives when at the core we are feeling this way. This is why a “just do it!” and “push yourself out of your comfort zone 24/7” mentality doesn’t always work. Especially for people who have a dysregulated nervous system.

So how can we begin to move through fear + see the growth we truly want in our lives?

We must learn how to cultivate *trust*.

Trust and safety work hand in hand. I know for me - when I trust someone, I often feel safe… and when I feel safe, I can trust someone.

This was a big a-ha for me in therapy recently - I had brought up a concern about how it was difficult for me to be fully connected and intimate with partners. For me, my body would often shut down and I’d feel super disconnected from myself 🥴.

My therapist helped me realize that I was doing this to protect myself (as a defense mechanism), and that in order to move through this, I needed to:

1) trust myself in the situation
2) trust the person more fully before getting closer to them.

As a kid, situations compromised my trust in others - specifically men, and I now see the value of really prioritizing trust as I get to know new people, and also if I want to take certain relationships (romantic OR platonic) to the next level.

Today I’m sharing some ways I’m learning how to cultivate trust in myself and my relationships. Swipe through for more ➡️
