This year’s theme, Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change, centres people with lived experience.

As the largest providers of professional mental health services in Canada, social workers see every day what happens when care is out of reach: long waitlists, out-of-pocket costs, and people left without support until they reach a crisis.

On , CASW continues to call for parity: mental health and substance use health treated with the same urgency, and funded with the same commitment, as physical health.
Mental health care is a right, not a privilege.

The Social Work Gala is almost a month away and we cannot wait to celebrate each other’s hard work and dedication over the past 16 months, as well as those who are just starting their journey!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our sign painting event from cohort’s 3 & 4 🎨🫟 (a few people missing from these photos who attended)

We spent the evening making these signs with the support and guidance from Kerri, who is an important part of our BSW faculty/family AND runs her sign business on the side (Kerri’s Signs & Designs on Facebook, check it out 😉)

We will be raffling these signs to fundraise for our society in the very near future, stay tuned for details when finalized! 🤍

Some of our cohort 3 students (missing a few in this) got to attend a lecture presented by Dr. Robert Strang this evening!

This was such an amazing experience and we are so grateful for the work he’s done for our province in public health! It was great to hear the aspect of social work within public health and the importance of working collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams. Thank you for reflecting on your career and the many contributions you’ve made to the profession of medicine! 😊

September 30th is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Please take the time to reflect on the impact today has on Indigenous Peoples and community as a whole. We honour the residential school survivors and families.

September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

CASW honours the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. We recognize that the impacts of colonialism continue today, and that truth and reconciliation call for more than a single day of remembrance.

CASW reaffirms that reconciliation requires sustained commitment to implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, the Calls for Justice issued by the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and the commitments set out in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

For social workers, today is a time to reflect on our role in systems that have caused harm, to learn from Indigenous knowledge and leadership, and to act in ways that support healing, justice, and sovereignty.

We had the absolute pleasure of spending the day at MotionBall this past June with Sabrina. We’re cheering you on every step of the way! 😊

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Sabrina and her amazing accomplishments in Floral Arrangement! 💐

After earning gold at the Cape Breton Abilympics Competition, Sabrina advanced to the next stage, where she competed for the opportunity to represent Canada on the international stage.

We are thrilled to share that Sabrina has qualified for Team Canada and will compete at the International Abilympics in Helsinki, Finland, in May 2027!

What an incredible achievement! Sabrina’s talent, creativity and hard work have taken her all the way to the international stage.

Please join us in congratulating Sabrina and wishing her the very best as she prepares to represent Canada in Finland! 🌷👏

Cohort 3. 🧡💚

We had our last pre-practicum orientation today (missing two classmates in this picture as they’re doing theirs off island!)

Tomorrow we start our final practicum AND the final term of our BSW. We are so grateful to learn alongside each other and enter this next step in our journey together. Make sure to learn lots, embrace stepping outside of your comfort zone, and practice self-care over the next 13 weeks. We couldn’t do it without each other, our amazing faculty, and our support systems. Let’s give it one last go!!! 🎉

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day, the world's largest campaign to end overdose. We remember every life lost to overdose, parents, siblings, children, friends, neighbours, and clients. We hold space for the grief carried by loved ones and the ongoing pain felt by communities across the country.

As social workers, we stand for approaches that reduce harm and uphold people’s rights. We meet people with compassion. We listen without judgment. And we continue to stand alongside those impacted by the toxic drug crisis in impacted by the toxic drug crisis to push for systems that support, not punish

Today, and every day, we say:
You are not alone.
Your life matters.
Everyone is worthy of affirming and judgement-free care.
