📢 TESOL Statement on the Rescission of Guidance on Serving Multilingual Learners of English (MLEs) in U.S. Public Schools
TESOL International Association strongly opposes the U.S. government’s decision to rescind the 2015 Dear Colleague Letter, which provided critical clarity on protecting the civil rights of MLEs.
This action threatens the education of more than 5 million MLEs nationwide, the majority of whom are U.S. citizens, and undermines families’ ability to fully participate in their children’s schooling.
TESOL urges educators, schools, and communities to advocate for the right and access to education for all MLEs.
