As our term as Students' Union Executives comes to an end, we wanted to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude. Serving in these roles has been an incredible experience and an honour.

We want to thank our fellow students for your support, your trust, and your willingness to engage with us throughout this journey. Together, we've accomplished so much, from organizing successful events and advocating for student rights to serving on numerous boards and committees where we brought the student voice to the forefront.

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to have served the student body and to have been a part of this amazing organization. As we each move on to new adventures, we will always cherish the memories and the lessons learned during our time as Executives.

Today, we would like to introduce and recognize Alex MacNeil, our Director of Finance and Operations here at the CBU Students’ Union. Alex has been with the CBUSU for almost a decade and each year he offers unwavering support to both the Executive Committee and students at large.

Alex has been part of several initiatives and worked tirelessly to ensure success on special projects including the Food Bank, Mobile Caper Convenience at the CBU basketball games, the Emergency Bursary Fund, support to societies, and more. Those who have worked with Alex over the years can attest to his dedication, resilience, and love for our organization.

We would like to recognize our colleague and great friend of the CBUSU by renaming our Promotions Office to the "Alex MacNeil Student Life Centre." Thank you, Alex, for all that you do for students!

Forever CBU is a $50 million national fundraising campaign investing in the future of our CBU campus. The goal of the campaign is threefold:

-To provide scholarships and bursaries to meet the needs of our diverse student body
-Enhance campus and community life in health and wellness, sport and recreation, and the creative arts
-To build the new Centre for Discovery and Innovation

The CBU Students’ Union is proud to announce its partnership in the Forever CBU campaign by providing a $1 million investment over five years. The pledge was made during the 2021-2022 Executive Committee's term and was celebrated by the current team also. We believe in the importance of enhancing the student experience by building on access to new health facilities, providing more scholarships to a broader student demographic, and offering new and innovative infrastructure that will give CBU a more competitive edge in recruiting new students.

With the recent announcements of a Bachelor of Social Work program to start in September and an upcoming Medical Campus to open in the Fall of 2025, we stand behind these progressive changes that will ensure our students receive a top-notch education, making them more competitive in the workforce.

Being a stakeholder in the Forever CBU campaign will pave a path to encourage the community to support this groundbreaking initiative that will leave long-lasting effects on our current and future students.

Yesterday, we were honoured to present the Father Paul Abbass Award to Steve Horne, CBU's Manager of Recreation, Sport & Special Projects.

This award is presented annually by the CBU Students’ Union to individuals, who are not students, for their dedication to the vision of student empowerment as demonstrated by a significant commitment to the issues and concerns of the students here at Cape Breton University.

Earlier this month, our President, Executive VP as well President-elect and Executive VP-elect attended the Students Nova Scotia (SNS) Transition Conference in Antigonish alongside other member schools.

This conference helps ensure a smooth transition with the incoming executives. They attended several sessions, presentations as well as panel discussions, all of which were focused on how to better serve the student body in the coming year.

Kwame Bosompem Appeagyei is from Ghana, and he's in his first year of a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Supply Chain Management. When not working, Kwame enjoys volunteering at the CBUSU food bank.

Ruth Feng enjoys learning new things, chatting with friends and family, painting, and listening to music.

We want to congratulate Ava Graham, Community Outreach Coordinator, and Yasir Saleem, Food Bank Outreach Coordinator, for being recognized as Employee of the Month for March 2023!

Today, we signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Preferred Taxi. In order to help address the housing crisis, Preferred Taxi agrees to offer a fifteen percent (15%) discount on all singular taxi fares within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality to all members of the Cape Breton University Students' Union.

CBUSU members must present their CBU Student ID at the time of their ride to the Preferred Taxi driver in order to obtain the aforementioned discount.
