π From Arusha to Matalaπ
The team has officially arrived in the remote, dry, and beautiful town of Matala after an epic 8-hour drive south from Arusha on Thursday.
Along the way, they got a beautiful taste of the region, visiting another YWAM school to play soccer and jump-rope with the students, and stopping by a stunning hot spring with remarkable rock formations. As the hours passed, the landscape shifted into a rugged, arid beauty. They rolled into Matala right at sunset, a community of about 4,000 primarily from the Datooga tribe, who pastoral-farm goats and cows in this harsh, dry environment.
The team is safely settled in at the YWAM Matala base, a fenced compound on the edge of town equipped with preschool and tailoring classrooms.
Friday was a whirlwind, full-circle first day! Hereβs a snapshot of what theyβve been up to:
First Vacation Bible School: The team facilitated games, singing, crafts, and a lesson on Creation for around 70 local children. Because most of the kids speak little to no English, the team relied heavily on translation from the local YWAM staff. They did an absolutely phenomenal job adapting!
Discipleship Training: After a quick lunch and rest, they dove into their first YWAM introductory training session focused on Hearing God's Voice.
Soccer Ministry: They wrapped up the afternoon on the field, connecting relationally with local elementary and middle school students through YWAMβs local soccer ministry.
Everyone is staying healthy, keeping their spirits high, and doing an amazing job adjusting to a completely new reality. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they spend the next week serving this beautiful community!

Munro Academy has two service trips happening right now: Tanzania & Germany
Here is an update from our team in Nuremberg, Germany:
As you can see from the photos, the days have been a beautiful mix of learning, faith, and fun. Here is a quick snapshot of what theyβve been up to:
π Learning & Reflection: The team visited historic sites like the St. Lorenz Cathedral, the Dokumentationszentrum, and Zeppelinfeld. They also paused to reflect at local Stolpersteine (stumbling stone) bronze plaques, honoring history.
π Worship & Connection: Discipling through sessions on God's character and jumping headfirst into City of Light: a huge summer evangelism movement across Germany featuring 24/7 prayer and nightly worship!
π¦ Community: Making friends with YWAMers from across the globe, mastering the U-Bahn, and enjoying a mandatory gelato stop.
Thank you so much for keeping the team in your thoughts and prayers! πβ¨

π Tanzania Team Update:
The team started off this morning with a special time of prayer and worship alongside the broader YWAM team.
Afterward, they drove an hour north through the beautiful rolling African Savannah to visit a Maasai community, where YWAM runs a remarkable school and health clinic.
It was a real treat for them to visit the Grade 7 classroom!
They also had the privilege of visiting a Maasai family. Witnessing both the deep level of poverty and the profound, positive impact of the Christian school and clinic in this community was incredibly powerful.
In the afternoon, they headed into Arusha and experienced some amazing contrasts. Ranging from packed streets with chaotic driving and teeming outdoor market stalls, to a highly sanitized, comfortably familiar, Western-style grocery store.
The Tanzanian YWAM team has been absolutely remarkable in the warmth and care they are showing everyone. The students are engaging beautifully, maintaining fantastic attitudes, and sharing a lot of laughs.
Tomorrow, they head five hours south to the rural community of Matala, where they will be based for the next week. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers for safe travels! ππ

Touchdown in Tanzania! πβ¨
The team has safely arrived at Kilimanjaro International Airport! After a scenic two-hour bus ride, they made it to their home base at the YWAM base, where they were greeted by Daniel.
They wasted no time getting to know the local community today. They had the privilege of visiting a nearby YWAM New Vision school (Primary to Grade 7) and checking out a vibrant community soccer ministry. Along their afternoon walk, the team loved connecting and sharing smiles with the local children.
They wrapped up an incredible first day with a wonderful supper together and a meaningful time of evening devotions as a team. They are so grateful to be there and can't wait for what the rest of the trip holds!
Stay tuned for more updates! πΈ
