🌲 Where the Prairie Meets the Hills 💙

There's something magical about the drive to Fort Walsh in the Cypress Hills. Watching the flat prairie give way to towering hills and lush forests never gets old. Every trip feels like coming home in a different way.

I was honoured to be invited to celebrate Parks Day by sharing Métis culture through stories and teaching visitors how to finger weave a Métis sash.

Our program was originally planned for the picnic area beside the historic fort—once home to the Mackay family, a Métis family with deep roots in Fort Walsh and the Cypress Hills. With temperatures soaring to 35°C, we moved inside the visitor centre, where everyone could stay cool.

The heat made for a quieter day, but I didn't mind. Simply being in the Cypress Hills fills my spirit.

Knowing my own Métis ancestors travelled these same hills while following the buffalo reminds me why I love sharing our stories, traditions, and culture.

Moments like these are exactly why I created Bison & Sage—to help people experience Métis culture through hands-on learning, storytelling, and meaningful connections to the land.

☀️ Summer Evenings at Lac Pelletier ❤️🔥

There’s something about time at our family cabin at Lac Pelletier that makes things right in the world. It’s even more special when my sister, Leanne, makes it home for a few days.

Even though I had to work each day, we still carved out those sunny afternoons together—ending them the best way we know how: sitting around a crackling fire, roasting hot dogs. 🌭🔥

If you ask me, a hot dog cooked over an open fire is the true taste of summer. It's simple, comforting, and wrapped up in decades of memories.

Our family has been gathering around this fire pit for nearly 50 years. So many stories have been shared here, so much laughter, and countless bonfires. These days it's just the two of us, but somehow it never feels like we're alone. I like to think Mom and Chris are still here with us, enjoying the warmth and the memories. ❤️

And yes... I'm still trying to master the art of taking a selfie! 😂📸

🌿 Walking in My Ancestors' Footsteps 💛🦬

There is something incredibly special about teaching Métis culture on the very land where my great-grandparents raised their family.
Lac Pelletier has deep roots for me. Every time I'm there, I feel connected—to my ancestors, to the land, and to the stories that continue to live here. 💙

As I led a medicinal plant walk with a group of kids this week, I couldn't help but imagine my great-grandmother walking these same hills, gathering medicines and sharing her knowledge with the next generation. That thought stayed with me all day. 🌿

One of the greatest joys of this work is seeing familiar faces. I've been visiting schools long enough now that many of the kids recognize me when I arrive. Watching those relationships grow over time while sharing Métis history, culture, language, and our connection to the land is truly a gift. ❤️

This is why I do what I do. Every walk, every story, and every shared moment helps keep our culture alive for future generations.
