๐ŸŽ‰SECA welcomes today's announcement of up to $5.4 billion in additional federal funding for early learning and child care.

This investment recognizes the critical role that affordable, accessible, inclusive, and high-quality early learning and child care plays in supporting children, families, communities, and Saskatchewan's economy.

As part of our ongoing advocacy efforts, SECA has continued to engage with government officials and policymakers at both the provincial and federal levels. In recent months, this has included meetings with Saskatchewan's Minister of Education and representatives from the Early Years Branch to share member feedback and discuss priorities impacting the sustainability of child care programs.

We are encouraged by this investment and hopeful it will contribute to strengthening the sector and supporting long-term, equitable funding solutions for programs across Saskatchewan.

Today is Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day! We HAD to share this text from Michele....

"You know you are an Early Childhood Educator when...

๐Ÿงธ You spend half your day counting children.
๐ŸŽจ Glitter becomes part of your daily outfit.
๐Ÿ“š You get excited over new school supplies.
๐Ÿ˜‚ You accidentally use your "teacher voice" on adults.
๐Ÿช‘ Sitting on tiny chairs feels completely normal.
๐ŸŽ You know every child's favorite color, snack, and cartoon.
๐ŸŽต Nursery rhymes get stuck in your head all weekend.
๐Ÿ‘‚ You can recognize a child's cry from across the playground.
๐Ÿงƒ Opening snack packs quickly becomes a professional skill.
๐Ÿ’– Hugs, drawings, and little smiles make your whole day better.
๐ŸŒˆ You celebrate small victories like major accomplishments.
โ˜• Cold coffee is just part of the job.
โญ Every day is exhausting, messy, loud... and absolutely worth it."

Today is a remembering.

Across this land, Indigenous women, girls, gender diverse, and Two-Spirit people are still missing. Still being searched for. Still being called home.

They are loved.
They are named.
They are not forgotten.

Every absence holds a life that should still be here โ€”
a voice, a laugh, a presence woven into family and community.

This is not random.
This is not isolated.

It is the result of colonial violence that never ended โ€”
only shifted.
Into systems.
Into policies.
Into the conditions that continue to make Indigenous lives less safe, less protected, less believed.

We do not look away from that truth.

Because remembering is not passive.

It asks something of us.

To speak.
To listen.
To examine the systems we are part of.

To ask:

Who is believed?
Who is protected?
Who is still being failed?
And what are we willing to change so that harm is not repeated?

Awareness is not enough.

We hold space for grief.
We hold space for truth.
And we commit to work that restores safety, dignity, and connection โ€” not just in words, but in action.

Because this is about those we have lost.
And it is about those still here.

Today, we wear red.
We remember.
We honour.

No more stolen sisters.

Ever feel like youโ€™re saying โ€œdonโ€™tโ€ all day longโ€ฆ and nothingโ€™s changing?

When we use โ€œdonโ€™t,โ€ kids have to figure out two things at once. What they should stop doing and what they should do instead. That extra step can be overwhelming, especially for younger kids.

When we shift to clear โ€œdoโ€ language, everything becomes simpler. Kids know exactly whatโ€™s expected, which makes it easier for them to follow through.

Instead of correcting, youโ€™re guiding. And that shift reduces frustration for everyone.

Try it today with one small change and see what happens. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Follow for more simple, real-life strategies that actually work!
