What a wonderful day it was to be invited again to perform at the Gateway Independent Living this year
Our featured piano students along with special guest Micah (on violin) and Paul Tavai Latta / Tiffany (Polynesian dancers) were warmly received by a cheerful and enthusiastic audience! Our students are continuing to prepare for their upcoming music examinations this summer and fall. Wishing them the best!
Here are a few photos to capture today’s performances :)

Happy Chinese New Year! Well, it has been a busy few weeks at the start of 2022, as the studio welcomed back several fully vaccinated students. It has definitely been refreshing to maintain a balance of in-person and virtual students :) As always, strict protocols are in place to facilitate safety.
Here is a neat photo of our friend’s furry cutie pie, Lulu muffin, quietly enjoying my son’s piano playing!

Where exactly do I set up my computer monitor screen? I place it on a protected surface on top of the folded-open-lid of the grand piano. I find this position to be best both from a postural and ergonomic standpoint (head always looking forward, neck in neutral alignment with the body, optimal eyesight line whether seated or standing up from piano bench). Also, I am able to engage better with my students since they can always see my face and make direct eye contact. Please do share if you have any suggestions too! Happy to hear from you. Hope you all have a great weekend! Stay safe.

I have been asked where is the most optimal place to position a microphone during online teaching. Through my own trial and error, I found the microphone to be best positioned near the height of my face and within approximately an arm’s length reach away from where I am seated. Since I do not have a microphone stand, I have engineered my own simple solution for now (mic on an elevated stool). So far, sound-wise, this appears to be the best place for it in my piano studio. Avoid placing the microphone directly on the piano itself as my students have informed me that in the past, they could hear vibration noise from the instrument. Please do share your own experiences if you have any helpful tips! I hope you found this information to be useful. Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
