Looking for a tutor? How well can you read? Do you zoom at 100 mph and then not remember much? Do you read very slowly and forget the beginning before you read the end? Do you need 3-4 breaks to read a chapter? There are many kinds of readers with many kinds of habits--good and bad. There are two factors to reading: speed and comprehension, but each of these consist of "other things," namely factors. You can compose a "picture" of yourself reading, which is a profile of your good reading habits. Reading is a mysterious skill. Almost everybody gets past the original stage of reading every letter of every word. Then, dozens of different messages travel to your brain at once, and dozens of different skills and habits go to work at the same time. In a split second, your mind grasps the meaning of words, phrases, or sentences. You develop both good and bad habits. To start, check your reading level for both speed and comprehension by reading a passage. In the next post, we will go through such an exercise. At Amazing Tutors, we specialize in various subjects, including Math, the Sciences, English, and French. To help your child stay ahead in these subjects, consider joining our summer tutoring program.
