Introducing our keynote speaker: Ruby Gill

Ruby Gill was the International Association Coordinator for Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) from January 2014 – September 2017. In this position, she reported directly to the International Board, supporting the ongoing development of the MSF Associative movement across the globe. She was responsible for carrying out the associative vision endorsed by the International General Assembly (the highest governing body in MSF) and for guiding associations around the world in balancing international coherence with their unique associative identity. From October 2017 to May 2018, Ruby worked as the Diversity and Inclusion Advisor to MSF. In this role, she developed and lead workshops for staff across the globe on diversity and inclusion, as well as supported senior management in developing Diversity and Inclusion Strategies and Frameworks.

Ruby trained as a Registered Nurse and worked in various clinic settings including Burns and Trauma and Addiction Services. She worked in Haiti following the 2010 Earthquake and in Nigeria in an MSF project treating under 5’s for lead poisoning. She also holds a certification as a LEAN Transformation Services Coordinator and graduated from McGill University’s International Masters in Health Leadership. Currently, she is teaching in the Bachelors of Science Nursing Program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

Danger lurks below the surface, ready to reemerge with a vengeance that will destroy any rapport formed after the end of the last war.

As one of the six main UN organs, the United Nations Security Council has the responsibility of maintaining international peace and security through direct action. With the power to pass legally binding resolutions in which all countries must comply, delegates in this committee will be tasked to discuss about the conflicts surrounding the Yemeni Civil War.

Created in 1949 by the United States, Canada, and various Western European nations, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental military alliance originally made for protection from the threat of the Soviet Union. In the present time, NATO’s mission statement has shifted from defense against communism to the provision of humanitarian and political aid in nations ravaged by war. Delegates in this committee will be tasked to discuss about the Security of the Black Sea Region, a conflict that threatens the sovereignty of many nations within and outside NATO.
