“Music was always a part of Matthieu’s life. Born in 2005 in Geneva, Switzer- land, in a family of musicians, Matthieu showed an interest in music from an early age. After relocating to Canada he started learning the piano with his grandmoth- er, Tanya Shevtsova and later on also with his grandfather Victor Shevtsov.
At the age of ten Matthieu made his orchestral debut with the Richmond Orchestra performing Beethoven’s 1st piano concerto. He has performed in many competitions and concerts ever since. A few of his achievements include 1st place in the Kiwanis & Richmond music festivals Gala Concerts, 1st place in the junior category of the BC Provincial Festival 2018, 1st place at the Steinway Piano Compe- tition intermediate division 2018, 1st place in the intermediate category of the BC Provincial Festival 2019. He has performed as a soloist with the Richmond Orches- tra, Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra and the Vancouver Academy of Music Sym- phony Orchestra.
Additionally, Matthieu is an avid composer. He studies composition with Ed- ward Top at the Vancouver Academy of Music. He has composed music for solo in- struments, chamber ensembles and orchestra. Several professional ensembles such as Ad Mare wind quintet, Standing Wave ensemble and Vancouver Symphony Or- chestra performed his music.
In late August Matthieu is going to participate in the Canadian Chopin Com- petition in Toronto. Consequently, August 7th’s program will include Chopin pieces that he will be performing in Toronto.”
