Twenty-two Grade 7 students recently visited DIVERSEcity to present children in our LINC and SAFE HAVEN programs with handmade toys they created at school.

The visit was a meaningful opportunity for students to share their creativity, spread kindness and connect with members of the community. During their time at DIVERSEcity, they also learned more about our programs and services, gaining a deeper understanding of how we support newcomers, immigrants and diverse communities.

Experiences like these help foster empathy, cultural understanding and a sense of community, reminding us that even small acts of kindness can make a lasting impact.

A special thank you to the students and staff at Surrey Christian School for their generosity and thoughtfulness in creating and donating these handmade toys.

During National AccessAbility Week, we recognize the contributions, achievements and leadership of persons with disabilities, while reflecting on the importance of creating communities that are accessible, inclusive and welcoming for all.

This year's theme, Building a Strong, Accessible Canada, reminds us that accessibility is about more than physical spaces. It's about reducing barriers, creating opportunities and ensuring everyone can access the services and supports they need to thrive.

At DIVERSEcity, we are committed to helping build stronger communities where people of all backgrounds and abilities can participate, belong and reach their full potential.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to participate fully in their community.

For Canadian Environment Week, we’re reflecting on the importance of caring for the spaces we share — from the air we breathe and the water we rely on, to the neighbourhoods and communities we call home. 🌎

Building a more sustainable future is something we all contribute to together through learning, connection and collective action, both big and small.

At DIVERSEcity, we know strong communities are rooted in care — for one another and for the world around us. Through our Hazelnut Meadows community garden, newcomers, refugees and low-income families have access to fresh and culturally relevant produce while practicing hands-on skills in sustainable gardening.

As Vancouver gears up for the 2026, soccer excitement is building across the region — especially for local soccer families who have spent years living and breathing the beautiful game.

That excitement hits close to home for Gurinder Badwal, a clinical counsellor at DIVERSEcity, and proud mom to Jeevan Badwal, a 20-year-old midfielder with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Jeevan’s soccer story began early. At just three years old, he first stepped onto the field at Surrey’s Newton Athletic Park, surrounded by his supportive parents and a strong local soccer community that helped shape his love for the game.
