Today we had our May school liturgy, led by Archbishop Smith. We celebrated all the mothers of our Holy Cross community, and presented Archbishop Smith with a spiritual bouquet and other gifts for his birthday and to welcome him to our school.

May is the month dedicated to our Mother Mary, and this was talked about all throughout the mass. During the homily, Archbishop Smith introduced himself to us and talked about advice and what we should do with it. As the end of the school year quickly approaches, many of us are starting to receive, give, and seek advice in all forms, whether it be for exams or graduation. With all these different voices such as social media or our friends telling us all different things, it can be hard to find good advice. Archbishop Smith said that the best piece of advice he had ever received was from a 93 year old sister he had met during his time in the seminary. Her advice was to “Just stay close to Jesus and Mary.” It seems simple enough but you would be surprised by how difficult it is to do sometimes. A way to stay close with Mary is by praying the Rosary. Eventually by getting close to Mary you can hear her advice, which is to trust Jesus and do whatever he says. Jesus loves us more than we can ever imagine, and gives advice to us through his word. There is no better way to stay close to Jesus than by receiving the Eucharist. By listening to Mary and her advice, we can strengthen our relationship with God and deepen our union with him.

To all mothers: Thank you for all that you do everyday. The sacrifices you make, just like Mary, give us hope and strength to do what Christ would want us to do. May our Mother Mary continue to watch over and guide you through your gift of motherhood.
