One of the unique aspects of CHA is our commitment to student voice and agency.

What started as an idea from three Grade 11 students quickly became a full proposal for a ball hockey team—complete with league research, practice plans, coaching ideas, and even jersey concepts. Their initiative reflected the very skills a CHA education aims to foster: leadership, innovation, collaboration, and the confidence to turn ideas into reality.

At CHA, leadership is more than a title—we create opportunities for students to build, lead, and pursue their passions. Watching this ball hockey program move from concept to competition has been an incredible reminder of what our students are capable of achieving.

Our Grade 1 students had an exciting visit from Wild Education! 🐍

Animals joined us in the classroom to help bring learning to life—exploring topics like adaptations, camouflage, and biodiversity in a hands-on way. Students were thrilled to interact, engage, and even gently touch some amazing creatures, including snakes, chinchillas, tarantulas, and more.

Our student innovators took centre stage at the Innovator’s Launchpad Expo, applying the IB MYP Design cycle from problem identification to prototyping and pitching. Students presented start-up ideas aimed at solving authentic challenges within our school community, demonstrating creativity, professionalism, and empathy.

Throughout the process, they developed essential technical and transferable skills, including computational thinking through robotics, coding, and digital design; hands-on prototyping to test and refine solutions; and visual communication through thoughtfully designed pitch boards.

More than 180 students in Grades 6–8 attended the expo, engaging with prototypes, asking insightful questions, and helping identify the most viable ideas. Following the event, our Grade 9 designers gathered feedback from the school community and will now refine, iterate, and reflect on the impact of their solutions.

Thank you to the staff and students who listened, questioned, and encouraged our young designers, helping make this learning experience authentic and meaningful.

At this time of year, we’re reminded how far a little generosity can go. Reaching out to those who are facing harder times not only helps meet real needs, but also brings our community closer together.

In this light, we recognize the efforts of our high school philanthropy group that spearheaded our ‘warm coat initiative’ during this festive season. A student-led initiative in response to a need; this is a prime example of our mission statement in action: Building learners of impact, making a difference in their community.

Whether it’s donating, volunteering, or offering a simple act of kindness, giving is a meaningful way to share the warmth of the season. Together, we can help make sure everyone feels cared for and included during this time of year.

Admissions at Crescent Heights are well underway! With only two Open House dates remaining over the next couple of months, the January 16th application deadline is fast approaching. Families interested in joining our community are encouraged to apply early, register for an upcoming visit, or reach out to our Admissions Coordinator to learn more.

Grade 1 learners were proud to showcase their Makers Market as part of their Unit of Inquiry, How We Organize Ourselves. By weaving together the subjects of math, social studies, careers, and art, students explored both the design process and the fundamentals of entrepreneurship.

With support from the Grade 6 students, they designed and created a variety of products—including bookmarks, keychains, stickers, stress balls, and bracelets. Each item was priced at $1–2, with half of the proceeds being donated to a local charitable organization chosen by our learners. The remaining funds will go toward a well-deserved celebratory party to recognize their hard work and creativity.

On this Remembrance Day, Crescent Heights Academy honours the courage and sacrifice of all who have served and continue to serve our country. We take a moment to reflect on their bravery, resilience, and the peace they secured.

November 11 reminds us of the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. It is also a time to reflect on the values of peace, empathy, and gratitude, principles we strive to uphold every day at Crescent Heights Academy.

At Crescent Heights Academy, our Middle School math program is designed to meet students where they are—ensuring that every learner feels both supported and appropriately challenged.

Some students progress through our Honours Math pathway, while others take time to strengthen their foundational understanding at a more deliberate pace. Regardless of the pathway, the focus remains the same: fostering creative problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world application—core elements of the IB Middle Years Programme.

This approach reflects our commitment to belonging, resilience, and excellence. When students feel a sense of connection and are guided to persevere, they develop into confident, capable mathematicians who are ready to take on any challenge.

As part of our commitment to fostering international-mindedness and cultural understanding, we are proud to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Through the framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, we encourage students to appreciate and respect differences across cultures, genders, and abilities, while engaging meaningfully with traditions from around the world. We invite our students, staff, families, and prospective community members to join us in honouring this vibrant festival and celebrating the light, joy, and togetherness that Diwali brings.
