Whatβs happening inside our bodies? π
Interoception is our ability to recognize internal body signals like hunger, thirst, a racing heart, needing the bathroom, excitement, frustration, or feeling calm. These signals help children understand their emotions, regulate their bodies, and respond to daily needs.
When interoception skills are challenging, kids may have difficulty with:
β¨ Emotional regulation
β¨ Toileting awareness
β¨ Eating and hunger cues
β¨ Identifying feelings
β¨ Self-regulation and transitions
At our clinic, we build interoception skills through playful, engaging activities like:
π² Body sensations board games
π§ Body check-in cards
π‘οΈ Feelings thermometers
π¨ Breathing and movement activities
Helping children notice and understand their body signals can support confidence, independence, and emotional awareness π
