If your declared major is in MSE, or you're taking any engineering course in Surrey, then you are automatically a member of the MSESS.

The Mechatronic Systems Engineering Student Society is established to serve and represent the interests of its members to the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering The Mechatronic Systems Engineering Student Society is established to serve and represent the interests of its members to the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering, throughout Simon Fraser University, and beyond to industry and other engineering societies. The MSESS, run entirely by students, promotes school spirit and fosters community building by providing opportunities for you to interact with fellow students, faculty, staff and industry. Social events take place throughout the year, and the Student Society also organizes career fairs and sends members to conferences including the Western Engineering Competition and the Canadian Engineering Competition. The Student Society also will begin selling branded merchandise for you to show off your engineering pride.

The FAS Formal is an annual large-scale gala dinner for over 200 students and faculty members from FAS. This signature event is the largest annual event hosted by the Applied Sciences students for the entire faculty.

The Formal is a long-standing tradition for over a decade and a distinguished keystone of engagement and celebration. It is the primary opportunity for students to connect with the senior faculty and proudly brings together the most outstanding and engaged students from all disciplines in the faculty.

It’s time for this year’s SFU Engineering Competition (EC), happening on Saturday, November 16th, 2024! This exciting event serves as a qualifier for the Western Engineering Competition (WEC), which will be hosted by the University of Saskatchewan from January 24th-27th, 2025.

Whether you're passionate about design, programming, consulting, or re-engineering, there’s a category for you. Compete individually or with a team for a chance to represent SFU at WEC!

Competition Categories:
Junior Design (Teams of 2 to 4)
Focus on prototype functionality to solve real-world problems, especially suited for first- and second-year students.
Relevant Subdomains: Mechanical Design, Testing, Prototyping, Materials

Senior Design (Teams of 2 to 4)
Design and build complex prototypes with a focus on both functionality and theory.
Relevant Subdomains: Electronics, Sensors, Motors, Testing

Programming (Teams of 1 to 4)
Implement creative, efficient code to solve engineering challenges.
Relevant Subdomains: Networking, Full Stack Development

Re-Engineering (Teams of 1 to 2)
Improve or adapt existing technology for new applications.
Relevant Subdomains: Entrepreneurship, Problem Solving

Consulting Engineering (Teams of 1 to 4)
Develop solutions to large-scale engineering problems and present to judges.
Relevant Subdomains: Innovation, Root Cause Analysis

Registration Deadline: November 8th, 2024, at 11:59 PM
Participation Rules:
Open to SFU students within ESSS, MSESS, or SEESS.
No mixed teams between ESSS and MSESS/SEESS members.
MSESS and SEESS can collaborate on teams.

WE ARE SO BACK‼️

Next Friday, October 25th, the MSESS will be collaborating with SEESS, ESSS, and SSSS to host a pub crawl at Brewers Row in Port Moody! The event will start at 7:00 PM and last til about 10:30.

Heres the approximate schedule

7:00 - 7:45 Moody Ales & Co
7:45 - 8:30 Parkside Brewery
8:30 - 9:00 Ice Cream Stop @ Rocky Point
9:00 - 9:45 Rocky Point Spirits
9:45 - 10:30 Twin Sails

This event is free for all students (19+) to attend but you must pay for your own drinks and bring 2 pieces of ID. Make sure you plan your trip home 🤝
