Accepted language proficiency tests for IRCC's student direct stream effective August 10, 2023.

From November 15, 2022, until December 31, 2023, international students who are in Canada and who have off-campus work authorization on their study permit will not be restricted by the 20-hour-per-week rule. Foreign nationals who have already submitted a study permit application, as of today, will also be able to benefit from this temporary change, provided their application is approved.

December 30, 2020 — A decision by the Minister of Immigration, Francization and Integration taken for reasons of public interest took effect today. It concerns the reception and processing of certain applications for temporary selection for studies.

By this decision, the Minister is temporarily suspending the reception of applications for temporary selection for studies, as well as the processing of applications for temporary selection for studies already received from persons admitted to ten (10) teaching institutions that are under audit or investigation by the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur (MES). The institutions concerned are the following:

Therefore, the processing of any application received before December 30, 2020, for which no decision had yet been made is suspended. The reception of new applications is also suspended as of December 30, 2020.

This decision will remain in force until March 31, 2021.

This decision has no repercussions on foreign students currently studying at those institutions and who hold a valid Québec Acceptance Certificate and study permit.

🚨Travel update for international students🚨

Starting October 20, Designated Learning Institutions with a readiness plan approved by their province or territory will be able to reopen to international students who are currently outside Canada🇨🇦.

This update applies to all international students, regardless of where they are travelling from or when their study permit was approved. Find out more at: bit.ly/371de9O

Students should not make any travel plans until they have met all requirements and received all necessary authorizations.

DLIs to reopen to international students

Starting October 20, 2020, DLIs with a COVID-19 readiness plan approved by their province or territory will be able to reopen to international students who are currently outside Canada. A new list of DLIs with approved COVID-19 readiness plans will be available on or before this date.

If you plan to come to Canada as an international student on or after October 20, 2020, your DLI must be on the list of DLIs with approved COVID-19 readiness plans before you travel to Canada. This change will apply to all international students, whether you’re travelling from the United States or from any other country.

This change doesn’t affect study permit holders already in Canada.

If you’re already in Canada, you can continue studying at any DLI. If you leave Canada, you may not be able to return if your DLI doesn’t have a COVID-19 readiness plan approved by the province or territory in which you live.
