I love our little community!

Children’s art is all about curiosity, experimentation, and asking, “What if?” We transformed an old hand mixer into a painting tool and watched as the spinning brush created unexpected lines, swirls, and patterns across the paper.

There were smiles, laughter, and plenty of wonder as the children explored how movement, speed, and color changed the marks they made.

This is children’s art: creative, playful, messy, inventive, and driven by curiosity.

Open-ended art invites children into deep thinking.

Here, two children spent over an hour completely immersed in creating. There was no template. No “right way.” No step-by-step instructions telling them what their art should look like.

Instead, there were ideas, experimentation, problem solving, decision making, collaboration, mistakes, revisions, imagination, and creativity unfolding in real time.

When art becomes a craft with pre-cut pieces and identical outcomes, children often learn to follow directions. But following instructions is not the same as learning how to think.

Nature has its own playground…

At Backwoods Explorers, we embrace muddy boots, risky play, curiosity, and child-led learning in the forest for elementary aged children who are homeschooled!
