SIGN A PETITION TO SUPPORT SURVIVORS

The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) is encouraging all Canadians to sign a petition calling on the federal government to:

✦ Provide long-term, stable funding to support the search for missing children and unmarked graves
✦ Continue funding for Survivor healing, cultural supports, and community-led wellness services
✦ Follow through on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
✦ Ensure this work is led by Indigenous people and centred on Survivors

Member of Parliament Leah Gazan sponsored this petition (e-7410)—it is open and accepting signatures.

Important programs that support our citizens—including mental wellness, cultural healing, and work related to missing children—are being reduced or may end, even though this work is not finished.

Now is the time to act.

SCO encourages leadership, Survivors, families, youth, and community members to sign and share this petition.

Every signature helps send a clear message:

~Our children, our Survivors, and our Nations will not be forgotten.
~Our healing is not optional.
~Our Treaty rights cannot be sunsetted.

✍️ Sign the petition today at: https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-7410

This petition closes on September 2, 2026.

🌲Another reflection post! What comes to mind as you read the question below?

What experiences inform your perspective?

How do your identities, privileges, challenges, relationships, and responsibilities shape your reflection?

What voices or perspectives might be missing from your understanding?

What actions have you taken to advance reconciliation? Did your actions make a difference?

This series invites us to consider how Canada might look different if Indigenous laws, governance systems, relationships, and understandings of community were respected.

While diverse perspectives are welcome, this space is not neutral. Discussions will centre Indigenous power. Kind curiosity welcome.

🧡 Inspired by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, the Calls for Justice from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, Indigenous rights, and children’s rights.

🩷 This page is moderated by me, Danielle Dionne. I am a q***r (she/her) settler of French and British ancestry, and I have lived my life on the territories of many Coast Salish Nations. I created this page years ago as a space for reflection, learning, and awareness grounded in my own ongoing responsibility toward reconciliation and ending violence. I am not Indigenous. This is not an Indigenous voice. I work and study in the area of justice, child and family wellbeing. Reconciliation requires listening to and acting on Indigenous-led knowledge, rights, and teachings that have long been shared through generations of Indigenous leadership and resistance. In solidarity and love.

🔸By calling for the repeal of Section 43, TRC 6 names state-sanctioned violence against children as part of Canada’s colonial carceral system.

Reconciliation means dismantling punishment where it was first normalized, in homes, schools, and all institutions.
