A sweet way to celebrate our JK3 graduates 🐝🍯✨

Today we took our learning beyond the classroom and hopped on the school bus for a very special graduating field trip to the Honey Bee Centre. The excitement started the moment we boarded the bus and carried through the entire day! From discovering the important role bees play in our world to exploring how honey is made, our curious learners asked questions, made connections, and embraced every moment together.

Watching these children grow, explore, and become confident learners has been such a joy. We are so proud of all they’ve accomplished this year and can’t wait to see them take their next big steps.

Here’s to our amazing JK3’s your future is as bright (and sweet!) as honey 💛🐝

At Rothewood Academy White Rock, our JK2’s have been exploring our Community Helpers theme this month in the most exciting way 🚓👮‍♂️

We were so lucky to have local police officers visit our school, giving the children a hands-on look inside a real police car and teaching us all about safety in our community. From flashing lights to important safety lessons, the children were engaged, curious, and full of questions!

Experiences like these help bring learning to life, building connections between the classroom and the world around us 💙

Diving deep into ocean exploration 🌊🐚

Our JK3 learners engaged in a meaningful, hands-on STEM experience as they created their own “ocean in a bottle.” Using water as a base, they carefully poured and mixed oil, noticing how the two liquids interacted and separated. With the addition of loose materials, the children observed how different objects moved, floated, and shifted just like the waves, currents, and life within the ocean 🌊✨

This inquiry-based activity encouraged curiosity, problem-solving, and thoughtful observation. The children asked questions, made predictions, and explored cause and effect as they experimented with their bottles. Each creation became a unique representation of their understanding, creativity, and imagination.

Through play and exploration, we are fostering early scientific thinking, collaboration, and a deeper connection to the natural world. Moments like these highlight the power of hands-on learning and the joy of discovery 💙

In our JK1 program at Rothewood Academy, the children have been exploring healthy foods through a Reggio-inspired lens, where their ideas and curiosities guide the learning journey. 🍎🥕

Our discussions began with simple questions What makes food healthy? How does it help our bodies? The children shared their thoughts, building on one another’s ideas and developing a deeper understanding together.

This curiosity extended into a real-world experience as the children helped select and “purchase” ingredients for our smoothie-making project. 🛒

Through this process, they practiced decision-making, collaboration, and responsibility, seeing themselves as capable and active participants in their learning.
As we prepared our smoothies, the classroom transformed into a space of exploration and discovery.

The children measured, poured, mixed, and observed engaging their senses while noticing changes in texture, colour, and taste. 🥤 Conversations flowed as they described their experiences, asked questions, and reflected on their choices.

This meaningful experience supported not only an understanding of healthy living, but also fostered a strong sense of community, independence, and confidence.🍏

At Rothewood Academy White Rock, our exploration of community helpers invited the JK1’s to think deeply about the role of construction workers and their contributions to the spaces we live, play, and learn in.🧱🚜 Through meaningful conversations, the children shared their theories about how homes, roads, and buildings are created, and the importance of collaboration, care, and the tools that support this work.

To extend this inquiry, the children engaged in a rich, sensory experience using wooden blocks and shaving cream. ❤️🌳

Through this experience, the children demonstrated creativity, problem-solving, and fine motor development while engaging in imaginative and collaborative play. Their joy, curiosity, and willingness to experiment highlighted the power of hands-on learning and the many ways children make meaning of the world around them 🌍

Happy Earth Day from Rothewood Academy White Rock 🌎💚

Today, our little learners explored, created, and imagined using loose parts and recycled materials ♻️ From cardboard and bottle caps to fabric scraps and natural treasures, creativity came to life while we learned the importance of caring for our planet.

By reusing what we already have, we’re teaching children that small actions can make a big difference 🌱 Together, we can nurture a love for the Earth and inspire the next generation to protect it.
