*Summerside Source for Sports September Student-Athlete of the Month*

Lauren Simmons is the 17-year-old daughter of Mark & Julie Simmons of Summerside. As a standout multisport athlete at TOSH, Lauren competes in soccer (striker), basketball (point guard), flag football, and golf. Outside of school, she brings her calm demeanor and leadership to the field as a youth coach for the Summerside United Soccer Club’s winter programming at the dome.
“Lauren received a nod from one of her soccer coaches for this award, and it comes as no surprise,” said Athletic Director Joel Arsenault. “She is a composed and key contributor on every team she plays on, and someone her coaches speak highly of. On top of picking up golf this past summer, she is heading to Nationals as a member of the PEI FC U17 soccer team.”
As Lauren mulls over her plans for June, continuing her soccer career remains on the list. She receives a $50 gift card to Summerside Source for Sports for her achievements.

*Famous Peppers/Crafters Smokehouse September Coach of the Month*

Marta Irvine brings a wealth of experience and passion to the bench as the long-time coach of the Three Oaks Senior High Senior Women’s AAA soccer team. With over 25 years of coaching experience at every level—from mini to senior, as well as the PEISA U14 and U15 provincial all-star programs (before what is now known as FC)—Marta is a cornerstone of the Prince Edward Island soccer community. Beyond her work at TOSH, she serves as the Technical Director for the Summerside United Soccer Club, where she tutors new coaches and officials, actively referees, and coaches a senior women’s club team during the summer.
Marta’s deep love for sports began as a multi-sport athlete in high school, where she competed in soccer, long jump, basketball, cycling and even made it to a national competition in table tennis. Today, her coaching philosophy is strictly player-centered, prioritizing integrity, character, and long-term personal development over just chasing wins. Her dedication to her players extends beyond tactics and skill work—she is equally known for showing her support by bringing the occasional crowd-pleasing fruit tray to fuel the squad at team events.

Marta has been very pleased with the team’s strong start in September, highlighted by a Tier 3 trophy at the Mathieu-Martin tournament and a thrilling 1–0 season-opening victory over the defending PEISAA champions, Westisle. She credits the team’s early success to their strong dynamic and chemistry, sharing, “They value everyone, and I just love them.” She went on to say that this honor extends to the entire team and her fellow co-coach Ian Gillis.
We are incredibly fortunate to have someone of Marta’s caliber and heart leading our athletes! In recognition of her dedication, Marta receives a $50 gift card to Famous Peppers/Crafters. Congratulations, Marta & thanks to these two new local businesses for sponsoring our new “Coach of the Month” program for the 2026/27 school year.
