Today is Dolly Day, and we are bringing a little extra sparkle to the classroom. ✨💖

Dolly reminds us that you can be kind, bold, creative, and completely yourself—all at once. As an ECE, that’s what I want every child to know: your ideas matter, your voice matters, and there is room for you to shine exactly as you are.

So today we’re celebrating big dreams, brave hearts, and a little bit of glitter. After all, you never know what a child might become when someone believes in them. 🌈📚✨

🌙 New Moonlight Minds Episode: Heading to School!

Back-to-school season can bring a mix of excitement, nerves, curiosity, worry… and sometimes all of it at once.

This episode was created for the child whose tummy feels a little funny about tomorrow.

The child wondering:

What if I don’t know where to go?
What if I make a mistake?
What if I miss home?
What if I don’t know anyone?

Tonight, we turn those worries into something a little gentler.

✨ What if something wonderful happens?
✨ What if you meet someone kind?
✨ What if you learn something new?
✨ What if someone is hoping you’ll sit beside them?

A calming bedtime episode about courage, kindness, asking for help, making mistakes, and remembering that you don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin.

One little moment at a time. 💛

🍂 SEPTEMBER HITS DIFFERENT. 🎒

The backpacks are back.
The buses are back.
The split shifts are back.

And somehow there is ALREADY a water bottle sitting in lost and found that belongs to absolutely nobody. 😂

Welcome back to September in before & after school care.

This time of year, we can get so focused on routines, expectations, program plans and getting everyone “settled” that we forget something really important:

We’re getting to know a whole new version of these kids.

Even the children we knew in June have had an entire summer of growing, changing, learning and living.

So my challenge for September?

💚 Lead with curiosity.
Before correction. Before assumptions. Before deciding “Ohhhh… this one is going to keep me busy.”

✨ Look for the micro moments.
Remember the soccer tryout. Ask about the dog. Sit beside them while they draw. Laugh at the ridiculous joke. Notice when they’re quieter than usual.

👀 Get to know the children before you plan for the children.

Because Pinterest doesn’t know your group.

You do.

Or at least… you’re about to.

September doesn’t need perfection.

It needs educators who are present enough to notice.

And long after children forget the activity you planned, they’ll remember what it felt like to walk into your program.

Let’s make sure that feeling is:

“I’m glad you’re here.” 💚

I made the planner I actually needed.

This fall, I’m teaching four courses across two colleges and supporting more than 60 students. I needed one place to see what was due, what had been submitted, what still needed marking, what had been returned, and which students had accommodations or extensions.

So I created The Professor’s Fall Command Centre.

It includes:

🍃 Four complete course-planning sections
🍃 Assessment trackers for up to 60 students
🍃 Due-date and marking trackers
🍃 Accommodation and extension logs
🍃 Monthly and weekly planning pages
🍃 Space for the work professors carry that does not always appear on a timetable

Designed by a professor, for professors—because “I’ll remember it” is not a reliable organizational system when you are managing four courses and two different colleges. 😂

Sometimes, all you need is yoga by the Lake. 🌊🧘‍♀️💛

A HUGE thank you to Maggie D for hosting such a beautiful morning/midday. I got to spend time with two incredible Early Childhood Educators Maggie D and Carla Ward | ECE - slowing down, having the kind of conversations that fill your cup, laughing, relaxing, and, of course, doing a little yoga by the water.

There was also:
✨ A refreshing walk
🫐 Sweet peaches and blueberries… in the form of PIE, because obviously 😂🥧
🦃 A few friendly turkeys we met along the way
💛 And some genuinely wonderful company

There’s something pretty special about spending time with other ECEs outside of the hustle of our everyday work. Time to connect as people. To talk. To laugh. To breathe. To move our bodies. And to remember that we deserve to be cared for, too.

Thank you so much for hosting, Maggie. It was such a lovely time. 💛

I’m incredibly honoured to share that Miss Jamie Consulting has been nominated for a 2026 Stratford & District Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award! 🎉

To be recognized alongside so many outstanding local businesses is truly humbling.

When I started Miss Jamie Consulting, my goal was simple: to empower early childhood educators, school-age professionals, and organizations through engaging professional learning that makes a real difference for children, families, and educators. Every workshop, keynote, coaching session, and conversation has been part of that mission.

This nomination belongs to everyone who has invited me to speak, participated in my workshops, trusted me to support their teams, listened to the Forgotten ECE Podcast, and encouraged me along the way. Thank you for believing in my work.

☀️ We’re halfway through the summer.

If you’re an educator, camp staff, program leader, or anyone working with children this summer…

I see you.

I see the early mornings, the longer days, the schedule changes, the staff shortages, the vacation coverage, the new coworkers, the challenging behaviours, and the moments when you wonder if you have anything left to give.

Some days feel like magic.

Some days feel really, really hard.

Both can be true.

As we head into the second half of summer, I want to remind you of something.

The children won’t remember whether every activity went exactly as planned.

They’ll remember you.

The educator who laughed with them.

The one who listened to their stories.

The one who helped them make a friend.

The one who noticed when they needed a little extra encouragement.

The one who made them feel safe, seen, and like they belonged.

Those tiny interactions—the smile at drop-off, the extra push on the swing, the conversation while walking to the playground, the high five after trying something new—those are the moments that build trust, relationships, and lifelong memories.

Don’t underestimate the power of those micro moments.

To you, it might be just another Tuesday.

To a child, it might become the best memory of their summer.

So keep showing up.

Keep leading with kindness.

Keep building relationships.

The work you’re doing matters more than you know.
