SML is glad to welcome Miss Kayla Falkenholt to our school. She will be teaching the grade five class. Here is some information about her:

Kayla is excited to be working at a Lutheran school as she returns to Canada after spending the last four years as a missionary kid teacher in Cameroon with Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada. She was born in Edmonton and raised in Northwestern Ontario. Miss Falkenholt can play many instruments and earned an honours bachelor of music in performance from the University of Toronto. She went on to complete her education degree at Lakehead University. She uses her background in the arts to make learning memorable and engaging.

SML is glad to welcome Miss Lauren Onysyk to our school. She will be teaching our grade three class. Here are a few words from her:

My name is Lauren Onysyk (Miss O. for short), and I am absolutely thrilled to be joining SML as the new Grade 3 teacher. I graduated from the UofA in 2024 and have since spent my time subbing at various schools across Alberta and at SML over the past year. Being a sub with the school and becoming a member of the congregation of St. Matthew's church, I've witnessed firsthand what a wonderful and welcoming faith-filled community SML truly is! I'm excited to see the energy and curiosity of the Grade 3 students this fall, as I'm dedicated to creating a supportive classroom for the students to grow. Outside of school, I love going for walks and spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking. I enjoy spending quality time with my family, friends, and animals. I've recently adopted a bearded dragon named Georgie, and I hope to adopt a dog and some guinea pigs soon too! I'm looking forward to a fantastic school year ahead and can’t wait to meet all my new students and their families in September!

We didn't anticipate any new staff at SML a month ago, but things changed in that month. We can now inform you of the following changes to our teaching staff:

Mr. Skoye will be retiring at the end of this year.
Mr. Buchholtz will be going back to school to become a pastor.
Mrs. Berube will be going on maternity leave starting in November.
We wish all three of them well and keep them in our prayers.

So what will next year look like? Here are the planned teaching assignments for the fall:

Grade Four: Mrs Chapella & Mrs Dressler

Grade Eight: Mrs Starreveld
Grade Nine: Mr Glubish & Mrs Burger

Literacy & Numeracy Teachers: Mrs Lyons and Mrs Berube (Sept - Nov)
Social Emotional Learning Teacher: Mrs Dressler

In a few days, we will post more information about Lauren Onysyk and Kayla Falkenholt, who are new to our school. We are looking forward to them joining our team!
