A beautiful busy day at French Nature Camp today. We caught frogs, enjoyed the thrill of the zip line, drew with charcoal, planted trees, played baseball and explored the pond.

It was a wet day but a great day to kickoff Explore Francais this year. We made our own charcoal, Mod Podge collaged some special box tins, played get to know you games, learned how to macrame and roasted Bannock and Marshmallows under our own tarp shelter! The campers were resilient problem solvers!

Building bridges and confidence!

This week our fort was the big highlight for all the campers. The area in the back corner of the Pioneer Museum grounds has a small group of trees and some logs that were cleared from the field a couple decades ago. And today it has a special magic about it. Trampled paths, rope railings, story spaces, bridges, forts and all kinds of memories took shape in this otherwise unused space. These “left over places” are disappearing and it is these spaces where kids can learn teamwork, planning, building skills, resilience and so much more!
I do research and education about this type of nature play and there is a huge campaign to try and bring back these kinds of experiences into childhood.
