If you'd like guidance on how to practice these patterns effectively, build the hand technique required to play them with ease, and learn how to apply them musically in grooves, fills, and soloing, drum lessons are available in Stonewall and Winnipeg.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced player, I'd be happy to help you take your playing to the next level.

Are you a musician wanting to improve, but you aren't sure what to practice?
Here’s a way to bring direction and clarity to your musical journey:
1) Start with a clear goal that you can say outloud. If you don’t know where you’re going, it’s impossible to map out how to get there.
Your goal might be:
• Playing the songs you love
• Feeling free and expressive on your instrument
• Building speed and control
• Improving timing and consistency
Whatever it is — define it clearly. A vague goal leads to vague progress.
2) Break that goal into smaller steps.
Big goals can feel overwhelming, but every skill is built piece by piece.
Ask yourself:
“What smaller skills make up this goal?”
For example:
If your goal is to play faster → work on timing, relaxation, and control at slower tempos first.
If your goal is to feel more free → learn vocabulary, patterns, and how they connect.
3) Give each practice session a purpose.
Don’t just “play” — practice with intention.
Before you start, decide:
“What am I improving today?”
Clear goal → Small steps → Focused practice → Show up consistently
That’s the path forward.
