🍇 Monday Morning Liturgy | Growing the Common Good 🍇
This morning, our Monday Liturgy connected Matthew 21:33–43 — the Parable of the Tenants — with our Catholic Social Teaching focus for October: The Common Good.
Just as the vineyard owner entrusted the tenants with his vineyard, God entrusts each of us with unique gifts. Those gifts aren’t just for us—they are meant to be used well, for God’s glory and for the good of others. 💜
Of course, we needed some grapes to help us understand! 🍇 Anna bravely volunteered as we talked about how the grapes could represent our God-given gifts. When we don’t use those gifts well, it’s a little like taking perfectly good grapes and... SQUISHING THEM! 🦶🍇
Let’s just say Anna was slightly less enthusiastic about the grape-squishing portion of the lesson than Mrs. McMillan and Miss Swaren were. 😂
Then it was time for The Great Grape Gathering! Our Faith Friends raced throughout the school collecting paper grapes. When everyone returned to the gym, we discovered something interesting: some pairs had 30+ grapes, while others had none at all.
And that’s where the Common Good came in.
We talked about how our goal as Catholic Christians isn’t simply to ask, “How can my gifts help ME succeed?” Instead, we ask:
❤️ “How can I use what God has given me to help ALL of us flourish?”
Our Faith Friends were given one final challenge: make sure every pair had at least three grapes.
For some, the Common Good meant receiving help.
For others, it meant sharing what they had and making a sacrifice.
For everyone, it meant recognizing that we are responsible for one another.
And there is something beautiful about that. ✨
When each of us uses our unique God-given gifts well, we all have something important to contribute—and together, we can create something far more beautiful than we ever could on our own.
🍇❤️ Beauty grows when we work together for the Common Good.
