YOUTH SUPPORT WORKER POSITIONS AVAILABLE
The Community Education Network for Southwestern Newfoundland, (CEN) is a non-profit community-based organization with over 30 years experience working collaboratively with a variety of partners to provide a range of services and programs for individuals and families through a client-centered coordinated approach to service delivery. CEN has received funding through Reaching Home – Rural and Remote Stream to establish supportive housing for youth between the ages of 18-29 years with a range of wrap-around services and supports to address identified individual needs. We are presently seeking the services of a part time Youth Support Worker.
Job Description:
The Youth Support Worker plays a crucial role in creating a warm, welcoming, secure, and supportive environment for youth aged 18-29 who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. Housing accommodations are provided for up to two years (subject to continued funding) to allow ample time for youth to receive the necessary services and supports. This duration helps them address identified needs and build on their existing strengths, ultimately developing the skills needed to live independently.
Youth Support Workers will provide assistance with daily living tasks for up to seven residents. They will support residents in accessing a broad range of community services based on individual needs and actively engage in client-centered case planning and management to help residents achieve their identified goals. Staff will ensure the health and safety of residents and the security of the home, in accordance with all health and safety requirements. Youth Support Workers will be required to work scheduled and call-in shifts, including day shifts, evenings, overnight shifts, and weekends.
Duties will include the following:
● Ensure the health, safety and security of the youth residents, co-workers, and visitors to the home
● Complete regular security checks/video monitoring of the home and property
● Assist residents in completing daily living tasks and developing life skills including meal preparation, laundry, cleaning, etc.
● Provide residents with support including information, resources, and referrals and assist them in accessing a range of wrap-around services and supports based on identified individual needs.
● Actively engage in individual case planning and support youth in achieving identified goals in collaboration with the supportive housing for Youth Services Committee.
● Ensure all health and safety regulations are adhered to including daily cleaning and disinfecting of communal areas and frequently touched surfaces.
● Complete daily logs, forms, and reports as required
Qualifications
Applicants must have a degree or diploma in the Social Sciences and have a minimum of three years related work experience. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. First Aid/CPR Training and a Criminal Record Check are required. Training in Mental Health First Aid; Trauma-Informed Practice; and Su***de Prevention (ASIST) would be an asset.
Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: $25 per hour
