It has been an amazing and busy first day with returning students and new Upper Elementary friends. Learning is off and running with get-to-know you activities and the First Great Lesson.

It is such a delight to have our growing family together after a long summer, to hear all about the children's adventures and to see how they have grown. We are excited to welcome all of our new CASA students tomorrow.

Montessori Moments #1 - Preparing for school

We are so excited to welcome everyone back and to begin a new school year together! Our teachers have been very busy preparing the classrooms and getting everything ready to warmly welcome your children.

Are you prepared? The first day of school, or even the first day returning to the same school, can fuel excitement, anxiety or even fear in children. We have learned over the years that the best experiences result from lots of preparation, knowledge and confidence-inspired conversations.

Every child is different, as is every parent/child relationship. It is so important to discover where a child is at and meet them there to begin laying a positive foundation for the learning year ahead. Be sure that they are well informed about what their school days will look like, the routines, the people they will be spending time with and the types of activities they can look forward to doing.

Most importantly, prepare a ritual for how morning goodbyes might go. Supporting a child through separation from their primary caregiver requires a calm presence, a confident outlook and a gentle reminder that you will be returning for them at the end of the day.

The teachers at Hummingbird Montessori are here to guide, not just your children, but also you as caregivers, to give your children the best start to the new year.

We look forward to sharing many of these special moments with you.

While our students are all home now enjoying their summer break, teachers have been busy tidying, organizing and preparing for the new school year ahead. This means new art supplies, new learning materials and new books. Thanks to our friends at Nottawa Cottage Bookstore who helped us fundraise for our little library, we will have a large selection of fantastic new titles to share with students in September. Enjoy your summer!

What a year of memories! This well-designed year book, thanks to our Upper Elementary Production Team, is chock-full of pictures and activities to keep each of our students inspired for years to come. We are so proud of all of our Hummingbirds, but especially on recital day! Our music teachers, Ms. Susan and Ms. Sherri helped students to showcase their talents today - singing, ukulele, piano, guitar, and violin. They have worked hard all year and deserved their big round of applause. These are only a few of the pictures captured. Thank you to all, including family and friends who came out to watch.
