'Memorial has really shaped me' A first-generation university student who completed her PhD this spring has become a green chemistry leader during her time at Memorial.

From Trinidad and Tobago to Newfoundland and Labrador, spring PhD graduate Kavi Heerah has found both a career path and a home at Memorial University. 🌎🎓

Graduating with a doctoral degree in environmental science, Kavi has become a leader in Newfoundland and Labrador’s conservation community through research, mentorship and environmental advocacy.

His work studying dissolved organic matter and the impacts of extreme weather events on the global carbon cycle has contributed valuable environmental monitoring data for the province — including establishing the longest-running monitoring station of its kind on the Avalon.

Now beginning a post-doctoral fellowship with Memorial University and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Kavi hopes to continue building accessible environmental monitoring systems while helping protect the environment around us.
