Growing up in St. Anthony, Sam Warren did more than admire the coastal beauty of Newfoundland and Labrador. He lived it every day. His love of the ocean, combined with a strong interest in technology, led him to MI’s Underwater Vehicles program. Sam’s journey is one of four inspiring student stories now featured on our website.

Memorial graduate Kate McLeod is turning hands-on learning into future opportunity.

Completing her bachelor of technology (engineering technology and applied sciences) degree this spring, Ms. McLeod credits Marine Institute, Memorial University's applied learning environment with helping her develop both technical expertise and a broader understanding of project development, collaboration and innovation.

Her final project focused on digital twin technology in the maritime industry and how it can support predictive maintenance and improve operational efficiency for vessels, an example of how applied research and industry-focused learning are preparing students for future careers and leadership opportunities.

Following graduation, she plans to pursue a master of technology management degree and explore opportunities in teaching and curriculum development. Congratulations, Kate! ✨ 🎓
