Guided by the principle that "to err is human," the CLSC is a safe learning space where our learners can learn by practicing, "erring," and practicing again-- so that once they are out in the real world, their patients will receive top-of-the-line health care.

Our High Fidelity program is a very important part of the CLSC. Today they are supporting the Memorial Pediatric Residency program. This program would not run as smoothly without the expertise of our High Fidelity Coordinator, Sherry, and her colleague Janice. We are fortunate to have these sim experts on our team. We’ve had quite the week here at the CLSC…. And it’s only Wednesday. The first face you are likely to see when you visit our centre is this special person. Cynthia helps keep our centre going and we are all very grateful for her help.

The Surgical Skills unit of the CLSC is a busy place. Learners use a variety of task trainers to learn and practice medical procedures. Barry, our medical tech, can often be found assisting faculty and learners during Surgical Skills events. He also supports, maintains and troubleshoots high fidelity mannequins, task trainers, patient simulators, virtual reality and associated equipment within the CLSC. It’s amazing what moulage can add to a scenario!!!

The Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre, Faculty of Medicine is currently recruiting for hire, healthy preschool aged children ( 0-4) to participate in our clinical skills sessions.
Each child must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver who is familiar with the child’s growth and development from birth to present. Questions about the pregnancy and birth will also be asked so it is important for the parent and caregiver to know the answers to these questions.
Each group of 4 students is paired with a pediatrician. The pediatrician will guide the students how to engage and interact with parent and child as well as perform a noninvasive physical exam on the child.
These sessions are similar to your child’s regular family doctor’s visit.
Parents are welcome to bring along snacks and toys to ensure their child’s comfort.
Before applying to be a part of this program, you must be confident that your child will be cooperative and comfortable working with strangers for two hours.

When: Monday, Wednesday, Friday afternoons ( October – December, 2018)
Time: 2.5 hours between 1:30 and 5:30
