The Regatta is a go! The Centre for Newfoundland Studies will be closed today for Regatta Day and reopen tomorrow at 9am. Enjoy the races!

We have a lot of festivals throughout this province! Our reading room display for August is showcasing some of the pamphlets, programs, and even a cookbook about our many festivals.

This summer we’re celebrating local books as part of our Summer Reading Club by sharing the ten highest circulating NL children’s books in our collection. This week’s top circulating local book is Out on the Trail by Bonnie Morgan (published by Running the Goat, Books & Broadsides).

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Bill Montevecchi this weekend. Dr. Montevecchi was a professor emeritus at Memorial and renowned seabird biologist. Not only are his scholarly works preserved here at the Centre, but we are home also to a slab of rock from the Funk Islands, donated by Dr. Montevecchi. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.

Sorry this is late folks. But without further ado, our latest additions to the collection for June! I was most excited to see "Measure with Your Heart" and got a bit distracted by the recipes while processing it for our display.

Applications are now open for the Margaret Williams Trust Fund Award which has been established to promote the development of librarianship in Newfoundland and Labrador. Funds are awarded on a competitive basis to applicants seeking funding for library‐related projects or assistance in pursuing full-time or part-time graduate studies (online or in person) in librarianship, archival studies, or teacher librarianship.

Amount of Awards – 2026: Up to $1500.00
Deadline for application: August 31, 2026

July 2026 marks the 125th anniversary of the Newfoundland Quarterly, Newfoundland and Labrador's longest running magazine. We're celebrating here at the Centre with a display in our reading room featuring various copies of the Quarterly throughout the decades.
