What did you do last week at camp?
Well we…

Investigated wooden stumps, made toys from slices of wood (wood cookies), made ice cream 🍨 with O'Brien Farm Foundation, safely observed the solar eclipse ☀️ 🌙, went birding 🐦, sawed and whittled wood. 🪵

Plays, campfires and more!

We celebrated the Festival of Lughnasa, or the first harvest, on Friday with the camps and preschool. Teachers performed the story of Lughnasa through Celtic storytelling in the form of a narrative play while children enjoyed roasted bread dough over the fire. A huge Thank You to Firewood Factory NL for the load of kindling and wood!!

One of the lovely incubator farmers at O’Brien Farm, Hillside Flower Farm, graciously offered our campers the opportunity to clip and arrange a bouquet of flowers he grows. The adventure and opportunity to wander his rows of beautiful flowers and watch the children excitedly arranged little bouquets was heartwarming. A big thank you to Hillside Flower Farm for sharing your beautiful flowers with us this week!

On one of our recent adventures to go see Prince the horse, we happened to arrive at the same time as his owner and the pre-schoolers got a special invite to help feed and groom him 🐴🥦 The children are still talking about it! A big thank you to Prince’s dad for making this day so special! 🥰

Last week at camp was jam packed with adventures! We visited chickens, climbed trees, learned some basics of wood working, went on adventures to Mucky River, built shelters, foraged ingredients for nettle lemonade, learned about the healing power of plants, whittled, read stories, made a rope and pulley, made our own water filters, and even got a demonstration on how to make a bow and arrow! 🏹

We have limited availability for some weeks in August. Please reach out if you’re interested or check out the link in our bio.

🌧️🌲 Rain didn’t stop the play today! The children splashed in muddy puddles, collected rainwater from tarps and bowls for their projects, and whittled sticks into tools for collecting sap.

When the thunder arrived, we took shelter in the kitchen barn, where we enjoyed circle games, hand-clapping games, and rounds of “Who Is It?” together.

Thank you to our families for your patience and flexibility as we navigated today’s weather and made the decision to head home early for everyone’s safety.

We’re excited to welcome everyone back to the sunny forest tomorrow 🌿
