There shouldn’t be a financial barrier for wanting to care for our communities.

Effective February 1, 2027, the Canadian NCLEX-RN registration fee will increase from $360 to $570 CAD, following a decision approved by the NCSBN Delegate Assembly.

At a time when Canada needs nurses, the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association (CNSA) is raising serious concerns about adding another significant financial barrier for nursing graduates entering the profession.

While we recognize that the costs of administering a secure and reliable licensure examination evolve over time, a 58.3% increase at once is significant. We are calling for this increase to be reviewed, reconsidered, and implemented incrementally to reduce the immediate financial burden on nursing graduates.

We are also calling for nursing students to have meaningful representation in decisions that affect our transition into practice, and for governments, regulators, and nursing organizations across Canada to work with CNSA on tangible solutions to reduce the growing financial barriers to becoming a nurse.

Canada needs nurses. We must make it financially possible for nursing graduates to become them.
